I am having problems when I playback the dvd that I burned with DVD Shrink on my home dvd player. It plays then freezes, then plays, then freezes and so on. Does anybody know what problem could be?

Sound like symptoms of bad media, try Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim.

I had same problem before with my old DVD Player. It seems like old players don't like burned DVDs. My suggestion: buy a new DVD player.

My first player (Sony) is not so old (around 4-5 years) but it almost always show C:13:00 error which means that it does not recognise DVD disc. But this message appears just for burned DVDs.So, I clean it, started using Taiyo Yuden discs, ... Same thing. But I just bought a new player (Panasonic DVD Recorder) and I totally like it.
OK, good luck.

Very common issue, try:

Quality media, preferable taiyo yuden or verbatim data life plus.
Slow down the burn speed.
No multi-tasking during the backup process
Possible burn program issue, try another one to verify.

If we can rule out those 4 possibilities, then try cleaning your stand alone player with a hard disc lens cleaner.

Also take note of where the freezing occurs on your stand alone player. View that backup on your pc using the drive that burned it.Make sure it does not freeze in the same area.It should play it's own backups and look great! Verifying on other stand alones can help.

I've just had the exact same issues-at the beginning 15 mins of my backups. I ended up buying a $36 wal-mart special magnavox that is playing everything of mine including dual layers.

To add to what Mort is saying...are you using stick on labels?

Buying a new player, if the problems can be fixed by changing media, would be the wrong first move.

I'm having a similar(?) problem with a few backup copies I have made. The only discs that are giving me a problem are Verbatim DVD+R DL discs. But instead of freezing (this did happen once), the problem is usually that I can't access the disc's menu. I actually waited long enough on my "The Jerk: 26th Anniversary Edition" DVD, and after it finished playing all the clips during the animated menu (with the menu items visible but not selectable), it started the movie. However it was cropped on my 4:3 tv instead of letterboxed. At first I thought it might have been a bad burn or bad media, but the same discs worked perfectly on my other (older & crappier) DVD player. Replacing the player is out of the question (it is a Kenwood 400 disc changer I paid decent money for). I have not noticed this problem on any of the backups I made on regular 4.7gb DVD+R media. However, I have made other backups on the same Verbatim DVD+R DL media that worked just fine on both players. Anyone have any suggestions? TIA.

I tried to slow down the burn speed. And it seemed to help a little. It now plays for a longer period before it freezes. I think it might be my dvd player. I just bought it (Phillips). Because it plays fine on my pc and on my 400 disk Sony player.

Well thanks for everyones input.

It plays ok on your pc and on another player.

We still need the MID code on your blank media. Sometimes a stand alone player can be very picky, even to which brand of media "MID Code" it will play.I've seen it many times. My stepson's ps2 would not play the backups off my kypermedia +8x using verbatim data life +4x that had the MID code of Ricohjpn-01.I had 2 other identical spindles of verbatim data life +4s coded MCC-002,all 3 spindles were identical 30 packs and had 2 different MID codes. He played the MCC-002 perfectly.

Download that free program that mort81 posted the link to:dvdidentifier.
It will tell us who made those discs and we can confirm the manufacturers quality.
