PS2 DVD Games to CD-R: heard its possible

I've been a big fan of the swap method for playing my CD-R backups. I have a Gameshark V2 that i use to help me out, not that Magic Swap stuff. But, a close friend of mine somehow has a backed up Devil May Cry on 3 CD-Rs and the game runs fine, and a Grand Theft Auto 3 as well. I know the originals are on a DVD disc, but can someone either tell me how to get DVD Backups to work with my Gameshark V2 and no Mod Chip, or tell me how to backup my DVD games onto a CD-R so i can use my gameshark the way i already know how.
