I'm looking for a program to convert a rm file to mpeg. Since I only need it for one file and will never need it again I'd like a trial version. I cant seen to find one that will convert 100% of the file without a watermark. Thanks for the time!

None of the "one click" programs I've tried have worked.

I've converted .rm and .rmvb files to VCD/SVCD/DVD quite a
few times but it's fairly involved and I'd really have to
create an online guide to get into all of it. I can list
the tools and the basic process if you're willing to look
at guides for each tool. Maybe I'll do a guide for it with
screen shots and the whole bit in the near future.

Tools
TMPGEnc Plus Trial Version
http://www.pegasys-inc.com/en/download/tp.html

Real Alternative
www.free-codecs.com

Goldwave 4.26
http://www.goldwave.com/release426.php

Stoik Video Converter v. 1.1
http://www.tucows.com/get/340342_129577

DGPulldown
http://neuron2.net/dgpulldown/dgpulldown.html

AviCodec (or other codec info tool like GSpot but I like AviCodec)
http://avicodec.duby.info/

Basically you need to uninstall Real Player if it's
on your system and install Real Alternative.

Then install the other tools in the list. See guides
for tweaking settings on TMPGEnc Plus VFAPI settings.

Process

If any step along the way fails, drop your video on
AviCodec and if you don't have the needed codecs, get
them from www.free-codecs.com.

1) drop real video file on Goldwave and Save As 16 bit signed
stereo .wav to the same folder.

2) load real video in Stoik 1.1 and convert to .avi(just leave audio
codec used blank, you're going to use the .wav file anyway.)
See stoik guides for tweaking .AVI video bitrate and params
but I use DivX 5.2.1 codec at 1500 kbps usually and just leave
the aspect ratio etc. same as the input. Just leave it alone.

3) you need to convert with TMPGEnc without getting audio out of sync
using this guide: http://www.johnisme.com/avi1.shtml with the only
difference being you load the .wav file as the audio input and only
use the .AVI file you made for the video input file.

When you're done you have an .mpg file. :)

I usually convert to DVD so I use the TMPGEnc Plus wizard and select
separate audio and video stream output(to get .m2v and .mp2 files)
which I can load in DvdAuthorGUI to author a DVD.

This method takes a bit of setup, but once you're setup the encoding for a 45 minute TV show takes a couple of hours, then you're ready to burn a DVD. On the plus side the only software other than Nero I had
to buy is TMPGEnc Plus.

Im sure with this information I can make the conversion. I'll just need set some time aside. Thank you very much for the help. I don't understand why RP had to make such a difficult format to deal with. Guess thats the point! Thanks again!

Sure thing. Oh I forgot to mention there's a dedicated Real Video Forum
on Doom9 http://forum.doom9.org/

I agree .rm are a pain. What amazes me though is some of the videos look pretty good considering the low bitrates used. Guess that's the
only reason I bother. Well, that and I can't find those shows in any other format with English Subs. :)
