Using mtr, popcorn, 10.4.2, Dual 1MHz G4, Pioneer -R disks, 2X speed.
No problem at all until The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. This is a longer than average movie. Ripped the entire disk (I also tried it with Main Feature Only). Compressed main feature only and burned with popcorn. In every case, the disk plays great on the computer, but the Sony DVD player plays some and then I get what looks like a series of very short segments, then a short freeze, etc. Not watchable, although it plays. Previous rips, no problem ever, but they were shorter movies. Any ideas, suggestions, etc?

i'm guessing its a dual 1GHZ.

you sound like you know what you're doing..
have you had any issues with other dvds?
it may be a badly pressed dvd.
did you get any error messages when ripping?
eg: bad sectors?

i'm not sure about pioneer but the speed is good.

different media?

i get nothing but verbatims... stay away from memosuck.

The computer is new (for me). I have burned just four or five DVDs, all with no problem, except for the Good/Bad/Ugly. What I really want to find out is whether the length of the movie, and hence the higher compression is a factor. What has been your experience on long movies?
Too soon to tell about the media - it's not easy to find 2X media.

its ok.. dont worry.. at least you have an idea of what computer you have..
most of the customers i get.. ask me how to find out what processor they have.. so you're ok.


anyways...
long movies havent been a big issue for me. how big was it when you ripped the dvd?

you've done other movies... popcorn is usually pretty ok for me.. the only thing i'm getting is that it may just be a badly pressed disc...
is there anyway for you to check with another copy of that disc? maybe return this one and get another one... are your other discs burning fine?

but again.. it just goes back to media..

The movie is 2 hrs and 20 min, roughly. I have no clue. I burned it on a PC, on a Pioneer DVR-509 burner, and it did fine (same original). So, whatever it was, it was a Mac glitch. I have burned other movies (shorter) since, and they have been fine.
I'll shelve the issue, and see if it shows up again next time a long movie is done. I hope not. I really like the mtr/popcorn combination.
