Ok, I'm new. I didn't even know this was a problem until few days ago. I'm talking regions here. Now I understand the DVD-ROM region codes and how you can only change them five times before the whole thing self-destructs like in Spaceballs. I'm just a girl, not a tech expert. What I want to do is play a region2 film on my computer. I don't want to mess with my DVD-ROM. Scared. Can't afford to kill it. Please, please give me some advice. I learned about something called VLC Media Player which is suppose to be able to play anything. Is that true? What if anything can I get that will make my DVD-ROM region free? I understand there are codes both in software and hardware. Is there an SAFE easy trick to bypass these bloody codes?
Thanks much!

Have many suggestions but first what are you using? e.g. burner, softwares. Please post. You need a software that will free up the region code for you like DVD Decrypter (free dnld)and DVD Shrink (free dnld). If you don't have them, get them from this site. If you've got Nero or something like that, in addition, then you're ready. Holla back.

Thanks guys!
I am using Windows XP. I'm on a PC (dell) Don't have a burner.
The more I look into all this stuff the more it seems confusing and complicated....sigh...
I will look at the Media Player Classic v6.4.8.4
How about AnyDVD?

You could try DVD43. The description says it works on copy protection but it also gets around region restrictions in most cases. It's free. It works for most people, myself included, but some people have a problem with it on their PC.

DVD Region Killer. Also free. I use this on one of my PC's that didn't like DVD43 and it works fine. Scroll down to the download link and download SetupRegKill.exe.

AnyDVD. Very good, not free, but you can download a trial version to see if you like it.
