I'm thinking about getting this model. It's on sale right now at circuit city.

Is this a good unit? I want something that:

-Will last at least a few years. Even after that, can still be playable.
-The recorded stuff can be read with no problem in other standalone and PC drive. Now and in the future.
-Doesn't waste a lot of dvd disc with "cannot read/write error".

Any suggestion? My budget is around $250 for a big name brand that can be bought in actual store. Been badly burned by a lesser known brand bought online. If I don't get this unit I might wait awhile for the holidays season.

And it's a great recorder, burns to all formats exc. D/L. If you really want to record on dual-layer discs, get the GX315 out now for about $30 more.

BTW, Crutchfield is not a shady online store. It has a 100% guarantee on everything, even better than Amazon. The only knock on it is they usually sell at retail (no sales).

I bought that model several months ago and I'm happy with it. Plan on spending some time figuring out how to work the controls and set the settings properly (much more complicated than VHS recording ever was!). But it sure makes great DVDs.

I have this one too. Can't record from my Scientific Atlanta DVR to it. Has anyone recorded from TIVO or similar DVR?
