Hi, i am really new to this and iv read lots of these forums but i still cant seem to get this right. Ive spent a week or so trying things out but i think it is time i just ask for help -_-
i have a windows xp professional and most up to date hardware
i have nero 6 and shrink 3.2 and dvd decrypter and folder2ISO. So the first thing i do is open shrink and i insert my dvd into the comp. i then select open disc and shrink opens it up. I click back up and then click burn at 2x speed. after that the dvd seems to be compressed and sent to a file. But after that it requests to insert a blank disc and then it starts burning. I am guessing it uses Nero to write but i am not quite sure. It then kicks the disc out and i guess it is done. But when i try to play the dvd on most players it wont read it and it only works if i put it into the computer and use power dvd.
Another time i try using Folder2iso which converted the dvd to an ISO type file which i could use dvd decrypter to write to a disc but i guess the file was not compressed and turned out to be 2 times larger than standard dvd discs.
I guess after reading all the forums i have that dvd shrink is suppose to compress and change the dvd to an Image or ISO file which is proper size to be written to a disc using dvd decrypter or nero.
Please help me ive tried everything i could think of and tell me if i was wrong in certain areas and how to fix them. Thanks for your time reading all this :_)

What type of media are you using? Is it a quality brand? Is it DVD-R or DVD+R?
Have you tried your dvd on more than one player? Some are very picky about burnt discs.

alright i have followed scuba petes instructions but i only end up with the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS with all the movie in folder format still and not in ISO format. i followed the instuctions by using decrypter to rip original movie into comp then using shrink to back it up to the right size and now i am left with a temp_ISO file with AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS and all movie parts in it but i think i need them in ISO format to write them using decrypter.
Can someone please tell me what step is next to writing these folders onto a disk or transforming these files into ISO without making them bigger
Thanks for time

Dvd shrink can be set up to automaticly use DVD Decrypter to burn the ISO or Nero to burn the video_TS. Your problem sounds like a compatability or poor quality media problem since your burned dvd will play on your pc. I need you to use this free proggy and let me know the manufacturer and ID of your media. http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/

I turned the files into an ISO format using Folder2iso and that went pretty smooth but when i use DVD Decrypter to write the ISO to a disc it gets up to 98% and comes with an error box with a lot of things on it. Yet, the disc tray pops out like when a dvd is done but it goes in again automaticly really fast. Then I can open the dvd up using power dvd and it will work. But the discs wont work on windows media player or my dvd players.
Could the problem be my discs?
I use DVD +R Memorex 4.7 GB 4x and DVD -R from TDK
dont know if these are the problems since they worked before but if it is can you tip me on which blank dvds to use?
Thnx again im getting back to work on this lol

Ditch the memorex! The Tdk I am not familiar with! Even if you get lucky and get a decent burn on the memorex, it will probably be useless 6 mo.s to a year from now. Taiyo Yuden is the best as far as media goes. Check the dvd+-media section here for all you need to know about good media!

Yes, get rid of those discs. Cmc mag is crap and more than likely causing your problems. Read my sig and do a search on memorex and you will see all the bad reviews. Try some verbatum, taiyo yuden, sony, fuji (made in japan), maxell or branded ritek ridata's. Stay away from memorex, HP, phillips, no name brands, and retail store branded media eg. staples, compusa, office depot.

Reave,
Good inexpensive media to use (that I have found and never had a problem with) is Verbatim. As far as when you get to the part that you have VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS files in your folder, did you know you can use just about any dvd burning software (like Adaptec EZ CD Creator) to transfer those files to a dvd disk. I use CD Creator 6.0, using Creator Classic, click on Data, and take those 2 files (even though the audio says there is nothing in it, I couldn't get sound without it.. go figure) and place them in the copy window, burn and viola... dvd at your beck and call.
If you don't have cd creator, try others that use data transfer mode and see if it works. I just hope you don't end up making a lot of coasters. Keep me informed if it works or not.

That is true as long as your folder is 4.38 gb or less or you are useing DL media. You will normally need some compression software such as DVD Shrink to make it fit on a DVD5.

I thought reave mention DVD Shrink was used. You know, I think I'm speaking before thinking. Now I can't remember how I set mine up. I use decrypter first and then I use shrink, & I can't remember how I burn it when I use shrink. I'll do one tonight to remember.
Sorry in advance if I'm misleading.

Good luck.
azsmiley,
No problem. We have to be careful what we say sometimes. Remember the newbies are learning what some of us take for granted.

ok i bought Sony DVD-R 120 min /4.7 GB $30 and i tried writing the ISO file with decrypter again but as i watched it, it did the same thing. It went to 100% complete and kiked out the disc but took it back in really fast. When it took the disc back in the writer progress reset back to 0 % then showed the error box again saying disc error.
I am not quite sure about what to do about that but should i try rewriting another disc with just shrink?
Thanks again :D
