Hi,

I installed a matrix infinity chip into my daughters V12 PS2 along with the neo-fix diode to stop the lazers from burning out. I was using matrix firmware 1.39

The chip was amazing until my daughter dropped the PS2 from about 6 inches onto a wooden floor. Strangely the PS2 could still play all games copied onto CD's, but would not read DVD's or DVD movies (copies or originals).

It comes up with the "Browser/System Configuration" screen.

I opened the PS2 to find 2 wires disconnected. The "GND" & "3.3V" wires.
I soldered these back into position, but it made no difference.
Still only plays all CD games, no DVD's at all!!!

I pressed the start button to disable the chip & it would not play anything at all!!!! Not even originals!!!
I turned it off & re-started it to enable the chip again, but now it will only play 1 old PS1 copied game. It won't even play original PS1 or PS2 games!!!!!! What have I done????????

I would really appreciate any help from anyone!!!!!!! Thankyou!!!!!!

Will it play DVD video? If it does, then i'd use a continuity tester to check your connections again on the modchip. (both the chip end and the motherboard end). Maybe desolder the modchip completely on the chip side and see if the PS2 will operate normally. Also, do cut back on the exclamation marks; its kind of annoying.

Yea sorry about the exclaimation marks. Thanks for your reply.

It won't play any DVD, not even video. Not even originals.

I would be interested in removing the chip, as you say from the chip side, as this would be easy to re-solder but I have also fitted a neo-fix diode to stop the lazer burning out, would you recommend removing this as well, or do you think I could keep it in position??

I like your way of thinking, as I would be able to tell if the PS2 console itself was at fault if it worked without the chip.

Thanks again.

Well the two most likely sources of a dead ps2 (assuming all the necessary fixes are installed) are dead laser assembly and loose modchip connections. Remember that even if a solder joint may look solid, it might be cracked internally and only intermittently conducting.

Just because it won't play DVD video doesn't mean its the laser assy though, since most modchips do patch the DVD video playback too.

Thanks for your response.

The PS2 does play one of my old copied PS1 games "victory boxing". I don't understand why.
But if the lazer is dead, would it be able to play this game?
And if the connections were at fault could I play this game?

I seriously don't understand why it plays this game & not any others.

And I do not understand why it stopped playing all the CD games after I disabled & enabled the modchip.

HELP!!
