boot from mc to hdd without using laser-dvd drive?

Been reading lots of Memory Card Explot instructions and still can't pin point the exact answer or how-to or if its even possible, hope someone can help?

Setup:

I have my hard drive (hdd) setup using winh;ip util and copied hdl v07c on the hdd (renamed to boot.elf) and put in the boot directory.
Tested and it works fine on my friends ps2 because he has mod that uses the dev mode = hdd boot method.

I have an older modchip that can't direct boot from hdd or mc.

Question:

So I want to boot HDL without using my laser-dvd drive too.
(i already can boot hdl from cd/dvd but don't want to do that)
If that's possible?
1. boot use trigger from the mc to load HDL (which is boot.elf) on my hdd.
2. boot hdl from my mc.

if so how or what steps do I take to setup or edit for example
system.cnf etc?

appreciate any help!

thats the only way you can do it without a modchip like your friends. You have to use the laser to read a disc.
