hi there, i am going through a nightmare, i have a slim ps2 with matrix infinty chip installed in it. my slim ps2 was working perfectly untill i decided to upgrade the matrix infinty firmware to 1.54. once i upgraded the firmware of my matrix infinty my slim ps2 isn't working any more. when ever i turn on my slim ps2 it brings up the matrix sign and freezes. i have to press reset 2 times on my ps2 to get to the browser/configuration screen.
my slim ps2 only plays orignal ps2 games now. but it doesn't play copied games anymore. and when ever i boot up an orignal ps2 game the ps2 logo no longer has infinty written underneath it any more.plz plz plz can somebody out there help me out. i will be ever so grateful .

Well thats a good sign. Have you tried reflashing the firmware? If that doesn't fix things, check the wires to see if any of them detached from the motherboard or modchip.

I have matrix infinity as well and I'm still using the 1.34 firmware. it works perfectly, so why don't you try to install the old firmware again?

OMG ! I have the same problem ! I installed 1.54 and now it doesn't work. I don't think you can go back to old firmware because now the matrix doesn't detect it as a ps2 game !

I just thought of something - Because the mod chip doesn't work, you are unable to boot the old firmware and reverse the changes... BUT - maybe you can boot it via swap magic and upgrade it back to 1.38! I WILL TRY THAT TOMORROW ! Theres a ray of hope for the the premodded ps2 I got for 100$ @ ebay :}. I upgraded firmware after 10 minutes of playing :{.

Damn, the firmware cd booted up swap magic cd, but seems to freeze at "programming, please wait" when you try to upgrade.

@Fasho: The Matrix Infinity will still boot a flash upgrade disc even if the firmware is corrupted. I will quote from the official webpage http://www.infinitymod.com/cgi-bin/matrix/site.pl?page=infinity_s...
Quote: - NOTE : You can always recover from a bad flash with the following procedure:
Put Upgrade CD into PS2 and put PS2 into standby.
Press "reset button" and keep pressed until blue light turn ON (on V1-V11).
(For the V12 press reset button from standby for 2-3 seconds as there is no blue light).
Leave "reset button" and Upgrade CD will boot.
Follow on-screen instructions to complete the Upgrade procedures.
If your PS2 was booting backups before and then it stopped functioning after you attempted to upgrade the firmware, then are you sure its a real Matrix Infinity that is installed?

I'm not sure if it is real or not, I got it premodded on ebay. If I don't use swap magic cd, the firmware will not boot. Is there anyway I can get it back to 1.38? It was working perfectly until i upgraded to 1.54.

I most likely have a clone. Got the system premodded @ ebay. I wish I hadn't upgraded firmware :{. I don't know anything about installing modchips. Is there a way to get it back to 1.38? I tried swap magic CD to install 1.38 firmware but it freezes at "programming please wait". Please help!

Don't want to jump to conclusions too quickly, but if it is a clone chip, then you are pretty much SOL. Try disassembling it to visually confirm its a clone.
Once a clone is made inoperable, it can't be repaired. However you might be able to desolder the clone on the chip end and put in a real Matrix, leaving the wires soldered to the motherboard. The points on the chip side are large and should be fairly easy to solder without experience.
I'm surprised you said you got it on eBay, as eBay has rules which prohibit the sales of modchips and other peripherals that allow playing of backups (obviously that would apply to a modded PS2). You might try to take it up with the seller, if the original page advertised "Matrix Infinity".

I already emailed the seller and he said it was my problem/fault because i upgraded firmware and that it was working perfectly before. He also said he knows nothing about modding ps2 and got it modded at a store. Also, I know nothing about opening ps2 and don't even know what soldering is. Is it possible for me to install a mod chip? I am 15 years old.

Well i had the same problem too, i thought i had the real matrix but it was a clone and i tried to flash it and the ps2 shut down on me, sorry but like i did if you can't replace the modchip yourself you will have to send it to a professional modchip installer and have them install the real matrix infinity chip for you, Try norcalmods.com, those guys are real professionals and will get the job done for you, good luck.

Actually, I found out about this guy modding ps2s and xboxes in my city, not too far from where I live. I found it on google and emailed him for location. I hope he he still does this business because the last post @ forum was in April 05; hopefully he hasn't been shut down or anything by authorities.

As far as I know Toxic-patched DVD9's should run with Matrix Infinity even without firmware that supports DVD9. 1:1 copies need the support.
