I posted earlier about all of my Dvd Shrink backups being incompatable with almost all standalone Dvd players, except Ps2 and Pc. I asked how to re-encode/reburn them, some missing original disc. I was told to make sure "Booktype Dvd-Rom" setting was on and to try better media. I found Dvd Shrink 3.2's "Booktype" option is defaulted "on" and cannot be unchecked. So, all of my backups are already booktyped. However, I do use cheap Dvd+R media, although, some Are burned on good Verbatum+R media and remain incompatable.
I have found a way to make these backups compatable with standalone Dvd players. I'm wondering if anyone else has had to do this and/or if there might be a better way. What I have done is to re-encode a backup to my hdd using Dvd Shrink 3.2 in "Create hdd files/folders" mode (not auto-burn). I then burn these files to disc with nero in "Dvd-Rom (ISO)" mode. These re-burns seem to be more compatable. If I re-burn as Dvd-Video, they remain incompatable. Am I wrong to assume Dvd-Video is the mode Dvd Shrink uses from nero's burn engine? These backups have no menus or special features, movie only. They are burned on a Sony DRU-500A at 4x on Dvd+R media (HP ATM) with Nero v5.
I wouldn't consider this a "double post" seeing as my first was a couple of days ago with no replys. I see no edit button.
Just a heads up, the above mentioned burn process is the most compatable I've found. I also found using DVD Shrink to create an iso and burn with DVD Decrypter to be, for the most part, compatable aswell. Though, I've found some not to be, that is, with reburns of backups. I just don't understand why when DVD Shrink uses nero's burn engine the backups are not very dvd player friendly, as has always been the case.
