Can't play dvd movie after burn Bcuz wrong format. Need help

Some one please help! I added new DVD burner to my computer and burned a movie with this new DVD drive. Can't not play newly burn dvd on any DVD player due to wrong or incorrect format message. I could play this new burn dvd disket on the computer. Please some one help me with the setting on this new DVD drive. This is Emprex DRW10161M and it had firmware version A089. I am using Nero with ver. 6.6.06. By the way, I be able to burn and view movie with my original dvd drive on the same computer. Both of the dvd drives are on the computer , new and old. Thanks

What's the model of your DVD player? Does it accept both - and + R formats?
Or is this a Pal/NTSC problem. Is the movie for the region you live in?

I'd be willing to bet it is a PAL/NTSC problem since most newer players accomodate + and - DVD. I encountered the same issues and although you can, through a very time consuming process, convert the formats, it was much easier for me to simply buy a $30 Cyberhome DVD player which plays both. My NTSC I play on my stand alone Sony and the PAL's I throw into the old Cyberhome.

Binkie and McBrat, I have several DVD players. one is 2 years old and other 3 about over year old or less. I have no issue of burning the same movie and play back on any dvd player with my old DVD burner that also on the same computer. I do not believe the region is an issue on this mater because i reconfi to free region. What is Pal/NTSC problem? And how do i fix it? Thanks

Just so I got it:
The same movie
Backed up on the same media type
Using the same burning program
The ONLY variable is the drive you burn too.
Is that correct?

Everything problem I have come across concerning this drive has been caused by
A) Media conflicts or
B) Firmware upgrades
My first thought is what the good folks here at AD have said time and time again...MEDIA!!!

McBrat, i thought this particular Internal DVD drive is compaticle to write these format, DVD -/+R, DVD+R DL, DVD-/+RW, CD-R, CD-RW. this is spec labeled on the box. I used both DVD-/+R disk but not help. Is there any other way can modify the confi setting to work on common disk format shut as DVD-/+R if not all?

From what I read it is not a + or - issue but rather a media manf. issue. I would try a different brand of media (TY or Verbatim seem to be the best by consensus). What brand are you trying to use presently?

McBrat, I have used TDK, DYNEX, GQ and Memorex. I brough these disks from Fry's electronic and Costco. I will try to update driver again as your (B) suggestion from Emprex webpage. I got the feeling that it only play back on Microsoft environment.

I "don't" recommend you to get them Dynex, GQ and Memorex (CMC Mag) - these are some of the lowest blank media in the market. However, the TDK is an okay media, and if you must get TDK in the future then you need to make sure it says "Made In Japan" on the spindle or package.
If you care for the quality and longevity of all your dvd movies back up, then I highly recommend you to get genuine Taiyo Yuden (including Fuji & Sony "Made In Japan", Maxell ("Made In Japan" by Hitachi) and Verbatim "id code: MCC003" only. These are some of the top notch medias you'll ever find in the market now-a-days.
The choice is yours to make, it's your call, your money, so make your decision wisely. You either get more "coasters" down the road by backing up on cheap/crap/poor low quality medias that will not be able to play later on i.e. 3 -6 months it will gives you distorted, choppy pictures and it will freeze on your dvd players. Or you can get high grade medias such as Yuden (Fuji & Sony), Maxell and Verbatim.
