[NOOB] Help With Ripping Cd-r Of Ps2 Game

hi
i own a ps2 game called downtown run and it is heavily scratched
it is compact disc and is only 300mb
i wanted to know if i could burn it on cd-r becuase it makes ALOT of noise in my ps2
im afraid that maybe it might malfunction so i wanted to burn a a backup
i think i have a right becuase i own the real cd-r
i have swap magic 3.6plus pal
and the game is pal
please could somebody point me in the right direction to burning the cd-r correctly

im thinking to copy it onto my hard drive then burn it and then boot it with swap magic
would this work

To make it short, yea that would work. You can also use CloneCD and make an image file, search for the tutorial.

i have 2 cd drives
top one is dvd drive
and bottom is cd-rw drive
i have tryed using nero to burn a direct copy and it worked sucessfully
it had no problem copying even though i thought it would be copy protected
i have one last question
if i have a problem with copy protection on my games would i have to copy to hard drive then burn
same thing with dvds
i have a laptop with a dvd-rw
say that my ps2 game is less than 4.7gb and i want to backup it
would i need extra software other than nero to burn image or iso or bin or something and then burn it on dvd-r and boot using swap magic

Nope, funny thing is that PS2 games are NOT encrpted unlike XBOX and I'm not sure about Gamecube....
U can just use Nero and do an exact copy or make an .iso image w/ DVD Decrypter and then burn that.
Using DVD Decrypter is for games that require patches or need to be "re-built" so that they will work w/ the PS2. If a game is under lets say 3.5gb, it probably wont need a rebuild and ur good 2 go.

Hi
How can i shrink or split psx2 dvd games onto a cdr, mine only plays cdr copies via action replay 2 and i know it can be done as gta3 was on 3 cdr's ???????????

i agree with ismith i would use DVD Decrypter very easy to use and it is free!!!!!!!!!!

just bang your cd in
click mode>>>>>>>>iso>>>>>>>>>read
select were you want to save it then rip it away to were ever
then click mode>>>>>>>iso>>>>>>>>write
select were ever u riped it to and then burn baby burn!!!

Yes i did read that but that only say's how to back up dvd to dvd not how to fit or shrink a dvd to fit on cdr media

o sry i didnt read it properly as i was in a rush my mistake.
personaly i wouldnt bother putting games on cd-r some ps2 dont get along with them and u can buy DVD+R for a few pence for less agro if u ask me.

the prob was my modd chip will not read dvdr only cdr , i'm going to get a new ps2 and modd it myself i've seen a non solder chip DMS4 Lite ModChip do you know anything about it or does anyone else?
thanks for the info on dvd copy though it will come in usefull in the future

to be honest with you i have never herd of it do you have a link you can send me so i can have a look.
i use swap magic 3.6 and a swipe card i think it was £15 and always worked very good for me.

i have purchased mine from techwizard.com they are uk based it cost #49gbp for the pro version, its solderless and looks like it kicks a** the only thing i'm not sure of is it mentions a "homebrew" software which i'm not sure what it is - i'll cross that bridge when i've installed it

Dvd Decrypter is a good program but it does not rip ps2 cd games only ps2 dvd games. i use alcohal 120 to rip ps2 cd games, works good

hello every body im having trouble openin a ps2 game i read a thread WinRAR extracting guide by hursty wich was very helpfull i just have one problem i opened the unkown file the only file without the numbewhen i drag the file into win rar it does not do anything so i hit extract i extract it to folder when i try to open it it tells me open iso sfv the archive is either a unkown format or is damaged so i tried healing it and it does not work i would really appreciate your guys help thanks
