I am pretty new to this stuff, so maybe someone will help me out. Since I cant solder, mods wont do the job, so I plan on using the swap magic and slide card method to play my backup copys of my ps2 games. Now what im wondering is, can nero just make a pure copy of a game that will boot on my chubby ps2 or will it require some sort of patching. if so, what will I need.
Some games will make a direct 1:1 copy of it, and some others. It all depends on the size of the table of contents file on the disk. You can get a general idea that the game should make a direct copy if the ISO that it makes is 4.3Gb or smaller. If it goes closer to the 4.7Gb ceiling, then you may need to throw a patch in there. "Patching", however, is relatively easy and there are NUMEROUS threads on here talking about it... just search it out.
Nero is OK to use, but I wouldn't use that as your only program. Get familiar and comfortable with using DVD Decrypter. It's a free program and really is one of the best image making/burning pieces of software out there... for our needs. You can also try and get a registered copy of Alcohol 120%. But for all the trouble of trying to "find" a registered copy, its easier to just download DVD Decrypter.
If you do want to patch later on, you'll need DVD Decrypter, ISObuster and Nero 6 or later.
When in doubt, go to google, throw in "Game Name backup" in the search field. (obviously replace "game name" with the name of the game in question. Yes, you'd be surprised how many people would actually put "game name") Chances are afterdawn will be one of the first links in the list and it'll give you a complete thread on whether the game needs patching or if it's just a direct burn. I've only ever had to patch 2 games out of my large collection. It's not really that common. (If you're like me and dont go online)
