2248 posts since joining on 6/10/04. 2500 needed for addict status. No biggie, I don't post just to post. My posts are normally informative and consist of more than just one sentence. 2000 to 2500 seems like a very long hill to climb though. Good day to all.

Mort you will make it, the last 500 are like pulling teeth, but when you hit that 2500 you feel like someone just let the air out of your tires and in some ways you wish you could start all over again. Bet you get their by Labor Day. Anyone who gives out as much good information as you deserves it, I know I have learned much from your posts :)

As long as I know I do all I can to help fellow members, I feel good. Some nights I get on, and I get so caught up trying to help I lose track of time. That's when I get the feeling like I put in work and helped to make somebody's problem non-existent or explained something so they could understand it. Losing track of what's going on around me means I'm focused and that's good for everyone I'm trying to reply to. For me, the best feeling is when I know someone's online and I keep up with their replies and do my best to get them the quality answers they need in real-time. My personal goal is to read and study as many categories as possible. That way I can be of some help across the forum. Not just in 1 or 2 threads. Even though I may not drop post all over, I'm reading various threads everyday so I can learn what's new or better troubleshooting techniques.
In the words of one Addict whom's post I've read a lot of...

....hence why i adapted ddp's phrase to 'tweak & burn' and use that sometimes as i tend to help out with burning stuff more than anything..
i've learnt a fair bit of good stuff around here (and still am) and try to make each journey useful (a phrase from my mum when i was growing up) and try to give back some of my knowledge by blatting thru a fair few posts in each sitting. to me it's never ending as each day there's always a swarm of replies to i tend to just go on auto and keep replying, and don't often step back and think how it feels, i suppose i'm a bit of a machine :)

I know what you mean, learning from each case. Sometimes I start to get tunnel vision and I may think one problem always has the same fix. That's usually when I learn the most, I'd catch myself before I actually post or hopefully edit before it's been seen, lol. I was in MSN Messenger the other with one member from aD trying to help him get access into his PC via his Xbox so he could access movies, music etc. We did everything under the sun I could think of...long story short...came to find out he didn't have a network setup sharing the folders he wanted to access. But the way the conversation was going I (for me) it was one of those assumed things. Almost 3 hours because of a small overlook..but I learned, LOL!
Anyway, I love this site THANKS EVERYONE FOR ALL YOU GUYS DO...I'm learning everyday.

only posting this (well copy/pasting) as i just typed this in a similar thread ..and i this this thread appeared in my inbox..
Quote: All being addicted means is we're addicted to helping. Believe me it can just be a right royal pain as there are people who do care about status, and they're the ones who take pot shots at you. Only a couple days ago some junior member (nuthin wrong with bein a junior, I've only mentioned it cus said person would have maybe been here long enuff to know how the forum works) took offense cus I commented on someone being banned for blatantly promoting piracy. that poster wouldn't have had such a beef had I not been an addict (the giveaway was that the poster mentioned I was an addict I think twice in his/her demented little rant).
Anyway, as long as you're giving good help 2 people who cares about status, its nice to help people, some of them even say thanks :)

Amen to that Creaky
Honestly, I think the only purpose ranks serve (especially to new members) is they expect advice from higher ranking members to be right. I joined the site almost a year ago to date but I had only used it once or twice and never really posted, I just read, found solutions and downloaded programs I needed. Usually I focused on advice from higher ranking members but with that, I didn't know how status was gained then I just they they were the ones with the answers. About four months ago, I started being an active member of this forum ad I will continue to do so till the end. MANY OF US ARE GENUINE ABOUT OUR GOALS WITH AFTERDAWN.

The hardest thing to do is to give advice to others when you are not looking at anything tangible, all you have to go on is text and sometimes a log. Everybody has different setups, programs and hardware. It is amazing when things get resolved. I like to think of posting as a constant learning experience for me. Because the posters are really the teachers, they get us to researching and help us to learn more. Just my opinion :)
