I have infinity 1.39 - cannot play backups - please help

I'm a newbie at all this.

I've got a ps2 slim, flip top with the infinity matrix v1.39 modchip.
The imported games DO work on the ps2 (the mass produced copies of dvd) but when I try to do my own backup's, it says 'please insert ps2 format disk'... it won't even recognise the game. I've followed instructions from the forum and used DVD Decrypter method(eg iso read, write), Alcohol 120% etc. I've also tried burning at the lowest possible speed but it doesnt work!
I'm using DVD+R TDK 4x disks, burning at 4X or lower. I've tried one dvd-r at higher speed (30x), didn't work either.

If I were to upgrade infinity to the newest firmware, would this solve my problem?? Does the type/brand of disk make a difference?

please help...so i can throwing dvds away!

p.s my burned cd's do work, like the bin file i downloaded and burned onto cdr which is a sega ms emulator.

If you have an original Matrix Infinity then it would be wise to install the latest firmware - which is v1.54. You can't burn a DVD at 30x - so I think you were trying to burn a CD-r at 30x. Trying using DVD-Rs and burn at 4x. I suggest DVD-Rs cause some PS2s don't like +Rs.

ok thanks, I'll try it. I think a possible problem could be that i havent checked the disks for dummy files too.
