DVD-Rs are rated at 4x, 8x, etc. Is this just for writing or for reading the discs as well? Like, will a DVD-R rip take longer on a 4x disc as opposed to a 16x disc?

Also, when buying DVDs some come without a "stacking ring," what exactly is that?

Thanks
Frank

when ripping the disk will not control the speeds the p.c. will control that the burn speed however is just a compatabilty thing just make sure it is compatable w/ your drive's burn speeds.
imo don't burn over 4x this will cause errors and a waste of money
speed does not win this race
have you heard the saying going nowhere fast I think the author was actually trying to burn a dvd.
and I think the stacking ring is a plastic "ring" that will seperate dvd's on a spindle in catagories of your choosing not sure on that one though
