Hello all,

New at this, but got a magic 3.1 chip for my V4 ps2. It will recognize cdr backups but not dvdr backups. I made the cd backups with record now/exact copy on maxell cds. dvdrs were made on Philips DVD+/-RW burner with Dynex -R & Dynex +R ( I know they are crap) and with Verbatim -R, on DVD decrypter @ both 1x and 2.4x speed and Record now/exact copy. Tried all these combinations and only the ps2 CD backups work, none of the ps2 DVD backups work. Beginning to suspect it is not a media issue. Any help would be apprciated. Thanks!

Ive been hearing those old modchips have been giving people problems. More than likely its a problem with ur modchip. Have u ever got a copied dvd game to even work on ur modchip?

Hey thanks for the reply, No i havent got a DVD backup to work on it yet. I have been able to play both DVD-R and DVD+R backup movies on it though... strange.

a little update to this thread,

sorry, i didnt notice until too late that there was already a thread almost identical to my question. if anyone else is having this same problem, i suggest you adjust the laser. If you feel goosey about it take it somewhere to get it done, but i had no problem and i am a novice at this kinda stuff. i found this stuff in the software boot discussion: "Magic 3.1 boots PS1 Backup, but not PS2 DVD-R???" Thanks cozmo2 for the info. I tried multiple ways to backup my games and It turns out that everyone of the games i backed-up work!!!! both on DVD-R and DVD+R. It also reads my all my original discs MUCH faster. This might also help out some people with older versions (mine is V4) to help with read problems. Good luck!!
