Hi as the title says, i just barely modded my slim ps2 with a DMS 4 lite chip. i boot it up and it will run normal games of course, but when i try a backup game it does the (Please insert a ps2 or ps1 game...) So im not sure if maybe i screwed something up while soldering the chip, and also is there any change to the ps2 dashboard that lets you know that the mod chip is working?

any help would be awesome thanks.

Dashboard change: Start your PS2 (after having installed the chip) and press and hold the square button you'll then get a message on the TV saying something like "DMS4 disabled - reset your console". Do as this message says. Then you need to flash your chip using the Toxic Bios program as the mod chip can't (legally) play back ups in it's factory state.

If you didn't get the message on your screen then check: (1) M to W (for PS2); (2) X (for PS1); (3) wiring connections - power and ground; (4) double check that all your wires are laid flat againt the PS2s board.

First of all you need to download this program:
http://web02063.prolocation.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3327

Then check out the following link from the offical DMS forums
(http://web02063.prolocation.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4604)which will tell you how to burn a Toxic Bios disc and how to load it on your PS2

ok i actually just had a few more questions, on the mod chip i do NOT need to solder R,S,T,V or C to the ps2 correct? and also my other question was.... i have a usb 100gb external hard drive which i also want to hook up, will i just have to put in like a hd loader cd when i want to play stuff of the hard drive, and then just boot up toxic to play backups?

sorry hope it all makes sense.
thanks a ton

You don't need to solder points R or S.
If you want to use DVD-RW then you need to solder point T (but keep in mind that DVD-RWs work sometimes and don't work sometimes)
You MUST solder point V which is the data point for the cdvd
On the slim line you solder point Q for eject (on other systems it's point C). But you have a slimline so you don't have to worry about point C.
Sorry, but don't know much (well anything) about external hard drives, so hopefully someone else can help.

If you don't get the message I've mentioned above then you've done something wrong. Are you getting the $ony red screen saying 'please insert a valid PS2 disc'? If you are getting this screen there could be several problems so I'd advise the following: 1. Check power and ground connections; 2. check wires M to W; 3. check that all of the wires are placed flat on the PS2 board.
