Hi there, Well I recently purchased a second hand psx beleiving it to be mod chipped. But when I tried a back up of Gran Tourismo it didn't load.. I tried to find a patch for this game but to no avail. I just want to verify this psx is infact modded. Is there some way to tell without lifting the solder on the protective plate? Should a mode chip have wires coming of it and connecting to the main board?? Or am I missing something out when creating my back up? I used Alcohol 120% in psx setting to create disk image then burnt it at 1x speed to a cd-r. does Gran tourismo need a patch? It says it is protected with libcrypt. does this mean it needs patching and if so where can I find a patch. Is there a generic patch for all games protected with libcrypt? I read one forum that said gran tourismo doesn't need a patch. If that's true then it's either my back up technique thats floored or my psx is infact not chipped! Or maybe the disk I used is not good. I did scrutinize the insides of the psx and couldn't find any wires but the solder did look like it was a home job? Well here's hoping somone out there can enlighten me... If i do'nt work this out myself first...... Cheers Lord Byron

No GT isn't mod protected so either you got ripped off, or you didn't burn your backup properly. The correct Alcohol 120% settings of PSX back ups are as follows: write speed low (no higher than 4x), Write method DAO/SAO, datatype playstation, and make sure you are using the image burning wizard and not just trying to create a Data CD.
