PS2 will only play PSone games.

I have a PS2(SCPH-3003) that will only read and play PSone games. If you try and load a PS2 game i get the 'Disc read Error' message.
I have had it open and adjusted the laser eye. I have been through all the adjustments twice but still unable to read PS2 discs.
I was given this PS2 faulty and replaced the laser eye as it wasn't reading any disks, now as i said it reads psone disks only.
Has anyone got any ideas as to the way forward. One last thing, would the output cable to the tv have any effect. I have also tried using my PSone output cable and i am still only able to play psone games.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Has nothing to do with the cable. its the drive, more importantly the laser. You say you replaced it but its not set correctly or the new one is also bad.

Thanks for the reply.
As previously i have replaced the laser and adjusted it through all the height ranges but still cant get it to play anything but PSone games. Are there any other adjustments that might help?
It is just confusing how it will read PSone but nothing else.

Its a new laser then you shouldnt be having so many problems. I would do a search for a repair manual through sharazaa or google and see if there is anything you have missed. I have a V7 that as far as i know has the original laser. I get DRE sometimes but I took a q-tip and alcohol and cleaned the laser and it cleared the error from like 65% to 25% of the time.
