can you burn games without them, yes
but not if you want to keep the online features
everything else in the game will work just fine.
i do not really do online gaming but i think you need
to patch the original DNAS onto your back up because that
is what you use at the online sites look for. This will better explain what it is than i can.
?DNAS? (Dynamic Network Authentication System)

This Software uses ?DNAS? (Dynamic Network Authentication System), a proprietary authentication system created by Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (?SCEI?).

?DNAS? retrieves information about a user?s hardware and software for authentication, copy protection, account blocking, system, rules, or game management and other purposes.

once your get the PS2 back up thing down. It is
really not that complicated for 95% of the games out there.
There are of course a few exceptions where patching,
rebuilding or shrinking->(only for dual layer aka DVD9 games)

I went from total from total noob to just loading games on with hd advance, and if the game wouldn't work with it I wouldnt know how to fix it. Now I have done so much researching on this site I know now how to patch, rebuild, copy, and fix pretty much ne thing that gets in ur way. Just search on this site research and ask questions and you'll get an answer. If you know how to burn ps2 games with DVD Decrypter look for a tutorial on how to patch the game to go online. At sksapps.com the go to tutorials then patch dnas id. Follow that and you should be set.
