Well ps2 is the easiest to produce backups for. There is a lot more to Gamecube and X-box backups.
As for ps2, making the backup discs is simple. You can download a program called 'Dvd Decrypter' for free. This will read the original disc to your harddrive, then burn the image file to a blank dvdr. (Mode>iso>read to harddrive)(Mode>iso>write to blank dvdr) I personally like Philips 4x max DVD+R discs myself. But Taiyo Yuden, Sony, or Verbatim Datalifeplus are all great.
Now for the ps2 itself. You cannot simply put your backup disc in the console and have it boot like the original disc. So you will now either need to install a modchip to have it boot normally, or utilize a swap disc.
I use the swap disc method myself. It's simple, it's not as bad as it seems, you will need to boot up this swap disc everytime you want to play a game, and then swap it with your backup. Again, it's really not that bad.
OK, that should be a good start anyway. What version ps2 do you have? old big one, or the new slimline?
Thank you so much....
He has the older one the big one not the slim one...he asked for it but everone said no hehehe we have aready gone through two PS2 systems one no ones fault and two his brother fault but he was really little then so he didn't brain him then hehehehe
Since you have the original ps2, there are 2 different ways to utilize the swap discs, if you choose this route.
1. (better)
Purchase a fliptop cover. Basically you switch the top part of the ps2 case with this new one. It makes it very simple to use the swap discs. You can actually get the swap discs & the fliptop cover as a kit for like 30 bucks. So that's probably a good choice.
Just for example, here is a site that sells what you could use:
http://www.gocybershop.ca/customer/product.php?productid=1292&cat... (all you need to make sure of is your ps2's version number, which you can find out on that same page)This will tell you to get the v4-7 or other)
2. (more tedious)
This method involves popping off the front part of the drive tray on your ps2. The part of the drive that pops open. (with the little ps2 logo on it) Then you need to use a slidecard to manually unlock and pull open the drive tray to make the swap. Fairly dangerous allowing little kids to do this one i would say. But a little cheaper. In my opinion, not worth it.
