Can i first say what agreat site this is, and a big thankyou in adavance for your help in regards my problem.

The problem being that i am very new to dvd burning, i am using nero 6 to copy to copy my dvd's quick fly so no space used on the hd.

when i start to burn the dam thing keeps spitting out the disc's with a message saying not enough space on the disc. i have tried various disc's +r/-r/rw etc and it keeps doing the same thing.

Can anybody help me please as i feel that i have just wasted money on nothing.

Thankyou

Hi whykes,

I'm a complete newbie as well, but I think I can tell you some things I've learned from reading stuff here in these forums.

It's not likely to a "+r/-r/rw" issue at all. But one think I've learned is that quality blank media is extremely important. A basic rule of thumb is that the package should say the discs are manufactured in either Japan or Singapore, and not Hong Kong or Tiawan. Maxell and TDK are generally of high quality, whereas Memorex is not.

If you're trying to burn a movie to a single layer disc (that is, a 4.7 gigabyte disc), then you'll probably need to first compress the movie using a program such as DVDshrink. Are you doing this? Or does Nero6 perform this function for you? If your answer is "no" or "I don't know," then this is likely to be your problem I would think. If your answer is "yes" then you'll need a solution from someone much smarter than me!

Good luck.

hay thanks for answering, i think i have found the solution to my problem. I think it's the disc space on my hard drive, a complete novice with computers. i only have a 8gb hard drive with which 5 is free so i think that this is the cause of the problem as i'm told when it writes it still needs space on the hard drive, and with that much space left, it may well kick out my disc's.

So my solution has been to urchase a new 120gb hard drive, i will fit it later on and tell you if this does the trick if not i just wasted £60, or well i have spent that on different types of disc's to try anyway.

once again thanks, and if you think this may be the problem please tell me

You want to use the Nero Recode progam to copy your disk if it is bigger than 4.3gig. This will encode and compress to fit your disk. Also you are correct, you need more hard drive space, good luck with you new one it will solve some of your problems.
