Are you using a cable between the Viper programmer and your PC?
If you are, try removing it and putting the viper programmer directly into your PC parallel port.

I found this difficult to achieve so I removed the programmer cable from the convoluted route round the gamecube and just had the programmer hanging off the viper GC directly with the lid removed from the gamecube.

Once I successfully loaded the bios to the viper I removed the programmer cable and programmer completely and put the lid on.

For me it's less of a problem to remove the lid again if I ever want to upgrade the bios rather than leave the programmer in place.

Can you try a different PC? I've heard some people having to try a few before they get one to work.

Programming the viper chip is the scariest part because you have to connect the programmer directly to your pc. When I tired this the first time, one of the white band strips on the programmer fell off of the tiny blue connector thing and I thought I was screwed! I thought the gamecube was f***ed up and I had wasted 265 dollors. Luckly, I was able to put the white band strip back into the tiny blue hole strip! Shortly after, I was able to get the damn thing to program. This programing thing is some scary sh*t!!! I feel sorry for people who have to experience this sh*t!!!

yeghig, you have to take the white metal part off of the viper programmer-you just take off the two end screws I thing and it comes off. So you should just have the needles sticking out of your viper programmer. Your default computer port settings should be fine for programmer the viper modchip, but if not, I forgot what setting it should be on. Then you have to take the viper programmer out of the black sticker it is stuck too! The next part is scary! You have to take you gamecube really close to your parallel port of your computer with out any of the wires on the programmer falling out. Don't be afraid, if the wire fall out, just carefully put it back the way it was. Once the computer and viper programmer are connected, literally, I mean LITERALLY follow the programming guide sheet that was sent with the viper and you should be fine. Programming the viper is a bit*h!!!!!!!!
