... If your DVDs are copyright protected, you'll need a 'Macrovision hack' to copy them onto your hard drive ... and I'm not so sure that any are available ...

If they are commercial DVDs, you may want to rip them with Decrypter/Shrink first, then burn onto a rewritable DVD (to remove the CSS protection). Then borrow a friend's DVD recorder and hook it up as if it were a VCR to your DVD recorder. Press play and record. Repeat process by erasing rewritable and repeating above steps. :)

Your Quote from another post.

Take my word. I've been there, done that. I must have posted 100 times my vow never use the PC route again, especially since you can buy a cheap DVD recorder for $150 these days. A decent video card to do that already costs $150, and I doubt the results would be as nice. The only reason I went with the VCR to PC Studio 8 route a few years ago was because DVD recorders were $800 and up. I am telling you now: SAVE YOURSELF THE TIME AND MONEY AND JUST BUY A DVD RECORDER!!! Anyone who even questions my reasoning, please speak up. I will tear you a new one. I cannot stress how much pain and suffering I went through using the PC route. And you can always buy PC software to edit your DVDs!!!

Iv'e been the PC route and it has advantages. The stand alone is a lot simpler and easy.

So what is it Stand-Alone or PC
Rip me a new one.

[catfreek] is right On [I don't believe a hack is avail. for your unit.

You can get an LiteOn product [and hack] and do an outstanding job.
The stand alone with HDD has better use and featues.
You could buy a new recorder with HDD for what it will cost for PC equipment
