I don't know if jitter is the proper word, but the movies I burn will freeze, then continue after a few seconds of silence. This happens near the end of ALL movies I backup whether I use DVD XCopy or Shink/Decrypter.

Is this an issue with my burner, or is it my disks...I don't think it's the software because it doesn't matter which software I use.

Any help/suggestions are appreciated.

Thank you,
TriZz

Use high quality media like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim and reduce your output in Shrink from 4464MB to 4300MB

Thank you Mr. Power.

Just to confirm...where is this setting on Shrink.

Also, would there be something that could be done in DVD X Copy to also remedy this?

Do you have a preferred site where I might find the best deal on the disks you recommend? I usually buy 50 Pack spindles of Imation DVR-R 8X because it's like $20 at my local computer store...

In Shrink click Edit, Preferences, click beside DVD-5(4.7GB) and select Custom, enter 4300 click ok. There is no setting to reduce output in X-Copy.
The media dosen't need to be ordered. I find good media a Office Depot, Staples, Best Buy. You can get TYs or Verbatim on sale, $20 for a 50 pack, I've even gotten them for less. To get the TYs at a store look for Fugi +Rs made in Japan. As for ordering on line I order from Blankmedia.ca, a Canadian site.

Do you put sticky labels on your DVDs? Labels can cause DVDs to wobble and the most severe wobbling would occur at the out edges on the disc - the end of the movie. Just a thought.

When useing Crappy Media and Burning at too high of a speed will cause this...I had this Problem really bad with one Batch of DVD"s I had But was able to Still use the Disks if I burned the Disks at 2X speed as opposed to 4x speed.....

If you reduce your Burning speed you will help avoid this problem....

I appreciate all the help and suggestions. I plan on fully utilizing these to see if it helps.

I don't use labels. After the disc has successfully burned, I write on the disc with a Sharpie. Nothing fancy, just the name. I thought about labels...but then thought, it's just for a CD book - it's not going to be on display.

I've lowered the number in Shrink as suggested above. I'll try that first. If that offers a nil success...then I'll try slowing down the burn rate.

Thank you again for you're help. I'll repost after I've tried your suggestions to let you (and future readers) know the solution that worked for my case.

Which would you recommend?

I'm sorry for all the questions, which may be a bit elementary. I learned to burn DVD's through online tutorials and never quite did a proper study of the subject. I have no idea which are good DVDs vs. poor ones.

I don't know the real difference between -R and +R. I just use -R because it works in my XBox (although, I don't know if +R works or not).

It was suggested earlier that I get Verbatim or TY (I think) DVDs. I checked my local computer store...and they have loads of Verbatim, but no TY (or the Fugi alternative). I thought I'd try the other suggestions listed here before I go throwing away my barely used spindle of DVDs

trizzz def. dump the Imation ,there junk media
and yes use either Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim
the Verbatims you can find at your local stores and DVD dash R is fine.
the Taiyo Yuden you can find online at supermedia store.com meritline.com or rima.com
another important thing to is burn at 4X max. (really helps)
and try some better programs dvd x copy is WAY outdated
download and try CloneDVD 2 with AnyDVD as a free trial ,you will love it. heres the site and a guide to use the programs

If you Burn these DVD"s at 2x speed they will Probably not Skip at the end or at least not as Much as there will be less chance of Burn errors at the end of the Disk.....

I've never gotten a burn error. The problem I get is trying to watch a movie that I've never seen before. The last 15 minutes of the movie hangs for few seconds, recodes, then plays for a few seconds, and repeats this process til the end of the movie. It's watchable, but annoying...especially when it's a movie you haven't seen before.

That is Caused from Burn errors...These errors do not Come up on your Screen and Say "ERROR" when Burning the DVD ,they are Caused from Burning the Disk at Too high of a Speed on Crappy media....

Just Try it!! Go and Burn a DVD useing your Crappy Media at 2x speed and then Play it in your DVD Player and I am 90% Sure it will Play Back Perfectly unless the Disks are Really Crappy....

Trust Me ,I know what I"m talking about as I generally only use Cheapo Media, even the Same Type as you use....

I believe you. I'm not trying to come off as argumentative. As new as I am...I have no choice to be humble about this.

...I'll give this a try tomorrow when a new movie comes in the mail.

Thank you all for your assistance and wisdom.

still your best bet is to get better blank media as i said in my earlier post Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim and burn at 4X max.

you can learn the hard way using crap media or use the good stuff and see for yourself that it DOES make a big difference

and doing the movie only would help keeping the file your burning as small as possible the fit on to the DVD-5

I had the same problem and it drove me nuts. I did everything i could think of. Then i finally decided to send my burner back and exchange it for a new one of the same model. I just burned the first movie on that, and it played all the way through fine. I think my laser was screwed up or something. If all else fails, send it back, that's what i did. Now it works fine.

@sosafan19 - that's always a possible solution for some people, though a lot of the people who come here with problems, we find it's due to incorrect/outdated setings, and/or bad media. all of which is worth trying to resolve before binning the drive..

Great show guys...thank you for your help!

I tried using the Imation media burned at 2x and it didn't work - even with the output reduced to 4300.

I went out and purchased some Fuji DVD-R and did the DVDInfo on them. The MF name was TY - which was a recommended media brand. Burned a movie at 4x with no problems.

I appreciate everyone's input.

Next - I'm on to trying to crack "Hitch" - I know the thread already exists, I'm not asking anything right now.

Does anyone know the best way to maintain a DVD in it's entirety - Special features and all - with Shrink and Decrypter?

I only know how to do this with DVD X Copy which isn't working too well with newer movies...

I'm afraid of sounding totally ignorant here - but why hide the truth...?

...running the background?

Perhaps once I download the program I'll understand...?
