Lets see who's out of the dvd ripping game. DvD xCopy and DVD Decrypt or say there out of the game but this site (afterdark) still offers a link.

Now to my question ...
Should I buy the new dvd ripping software as in Any Dvd to decrypt it and Clone DVD2 copy it to DVD-R. One Click DVD. DVDFab software line. Rebuild. (This is free) Shrinkit and Dvd Decryptor.

Now the people who are out of the game (some for legal issues others freak of nature) But they won't be offering updates.

Main question: Why get software that can be updated. Because I don't see why the movie people would change the encryption on dvds cause some people still have dvds that were the first ones that came out.
How can they upgrade the encryption on new dvds and still expect old dvd player to recognize it.

Cause I was (or am) going to get the DVD xCopy Platinum but learn that the new ver. will not be able to decrypt the css or macovision of the dvd. Also I'm debating on getting dvd decrypt cause there fresh out of updates so that brings the question why get updates aka the main question. So I'm confused...

Yes imo you should get AnyDVD and Clone if you like. Well worth the money. New copy protections have come out and I'm sure they are working on new ones as we speak. That's why AnyDVD is a great buy - they stay on top of it. This copy protections do not affect playing the dvd just ripping it.
I personally am not a fan of 1click- I'm a Nero gal. My personal fav combo is Nero Recode and AnyDVD running in the background. I still use Shrink and Decrypter at times. Decrypter is still the best ripper out there to handle those bad discs and a must have imo. Plus it's free.
I wouldn't waste my money on X copy.

Binkie's absolutely correct. XCopy is trash and AnyDVD/CloneDVD are some of the best money ever spent and quite fast as well.

Since there free why not just use DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink. I have not found a movie yet DVD Decrypter will not rip. When some new encryption comes out which I think will be Blue-Ray or HD-dvd which will change everything becouse there totally diffrent drives & media. What movie will AnyDVD rip that DVD Decrypter will not, been a little while since I've used DVD Decrypter so maybe there are new encryptions out now, name a couple new encryptions I'm interested. Programs will always change with new encryptions, And I'll bet there is a programer who will always break any new encryption. You may just have to go underground to get the program. AnyDVD will not last forever just like DVD Decrypter. So pay for it if you like but I guarantee you it will not last forever.

Good Luck

Nothing lasts forever and as new protection schemes are developed unsupported programs like Shrink and Decrypter will become less and less useful. We can continue to use them of course and if they work, that's great. When they don't then turning to programs that are supported and up to date seems logical. Regardless of how they perform in the future, they currently work and can get past Sony's ARccOS and Macrovision RipGuard DVD.

If and when new protections occur then hopefully DVD copying software developers will try and update their programs. Obviously that won't happen with Shrink or Decrypter.
If something comes up, legally or technically, and these developers can no longer provide copying solutions, then all we can hope for is that someone else will. If not, we will end up finding something else to do with our computers.

as far as they go DVD Decrypter an DVD Shrink are two of the greatest freeware apps of all time so far
as I have seen reported there were minor probs in region2 w/ decrypter other than that decrypter is still ripping any protection currently in use a new one "unstoppable" *knocks on wood*
and as far as DVD Shrink the only compression tool nothing compares as far as ease of use and quality when using the quality setting's it's only competition for those who do not have time issues would be dvd-rb w/ it's muriad of free(hc) and not so free(cce) encoders it's quality is un rivaled but fo rthose in a time crunch shrink is the way to go.

for a quick explanation of dvd-rb look here> http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=54560

There is an abundance of programs that you can spend your money on, some of those programs however would be a waste. The free programs all work well, and the keyword is free. If you want to spend then do it on AnyDVD and CloneDVD both programs are versatile and integrate well with the free programs. Also, if you have Nero you can use Recode2 to compress and encode, with AnyDVD running in the background. DVDXcopy is not worth the price they want, and the other programs listed above work better than 1Click. My two cents.

I'm with arniebear, ANYDVD/CloneDvd 2 combo is great, I also like Intervideo Copy 3 (I know many have issues with the re-authoring...I do too, but the 98% of the time it works...great results!) I still push Dvd Rebuilder Pro/CCE Basic (yes, HC Hanks Encoder is unbelievable for a free encoder and it is part of the rockas installer at www.dvd-rb.com. I think free is great, just found better programs that fit my needs and system.
