I've an AVI movie with the following specifications(as seen from GSpot):

Size: 2.55GB
Resolution: 720 X 384
Average Video Bitrate: 2840Kbps
Audio Bitrate: 192Kbps MPEG1-L3(mp3)
Length: 1hr 33min 41sec
Codec: DivX v6.0

I want to fit this movie on a single CD. So, I made three attempts to convert the larger AVI(2.55GB) into a smaller AVI(700MB), and I tried my best to retain the original quality. But unfortunately, in every attempt I made to compress the video, there is a lot of quality loss. The following are the descriptions of the three kinds of methods I adopted to compress the 2.55GB AVI into 700MB AVI file:

Attempt1: I used AutoGK(with Target Size: 700MB) and re-encoded the original AVI file. The output was a disaster. It had a resolution of something like 416 X...
There was abslutely no quality in the output file.

I was totally disappointed and deleted that file.

Attempt2: This time, I opened the original AVI file in VDubMod directly and made my own settings to the DivX 6.0 codec(using Bitrate Calculator):

Video Bitrate: 845 Kbps
Resolution: same as source
Quality: Balanced

The output was again lacking quality. However, it was a bit better than Attempt1. But, again I couldn't get the quality equal to the original AVI file.

Attempt3: Now, I opened the 2.55GB AVI movie in AVIdemux. I set the Video Encoder to Lav MPEG4. I configured the Video Encoder Settings in the FF mpeg options as Single pass-bitrate with a bitrate of 845Kbps as shown below:

Now, I noticed that the quality in Attempt3 is better than Attempts1&2. However, it wasn't equal to the original quality.

So, guys, pls tell me if I went wrong anywhere. Pls suggest any changes that I need to make in the Video Encoding options of any of the softwares I used i.e., AutoGK, VDubMod or AVIdemux. Also tell me what is the best software out the above three which can satisfy my purpose here.

In other words, pls suggest a method of compressing 2.55GB into 700MB AVI, without any quality loss. I guess changing certain options in DivX codec may be useful. But I don't what exactly should I change. All I want is a 700MB AVI file from a 2.55GB AVI file with exactly same quality as the original one(i.e, 2.55GB AVI file).

Note: The 2.55GB AVI file was obtained as result of encoding a 3.01GB MPEG2-DVD file in AutoGK(in 100% Target Quality mode). Currently, I don't have this MPEG2-DVD video file. All I've is the 2.55GB AVI file.

Have a nice day !!!

Not possible.

DivX, libavcodec, XviD and all other ASP MPEG-4 codecs are all lossy and at the kind of bitrate reduction that you are aiming for, there is definatly going to be a noticable reduction in quality.

This post reads really familiar though. Did you already post here or perhaps at videohelp? That's right you got banned there.
