Issues
1. Importing MPEG2 (generated by my tv card\vhs) files from my server into a Video Studio 6 project, ittermitently reports bad or incompatible MPEG2 files, yet they play back ok, with WinDVD.
2. Stipping out a section of MPEG2 video with WinProducer from a larger MPEG2 file of 3GB or above, often reports a "memory could not be read\written" error.
3. When using DVDDecryptor to read off and save to the hard disk, often reports "read errors", and unable to complete the task, even though the source DVD is often new and bearly used.
4. When using DVDDecryptor to generate M2V files, they often look to be the correct size but only play upto a certain point in the film with WinDVD.
5. When using DVDDecryptor to generate VOB files, they often save corrupted on my network drive and cannot be played back with WinDVD, resulting in the error "memory could not be read\written" or crashed application.

To add:
6. When using ReMPEG to compress a M2V and AC3 file, either is stops with the error, "does not support frame size nnnnnn x nnnnnn (large numbers) OR finishes processing and the third option of frame size to choose from is also nnnnnn x nnnnnn (large size) and the 'Encode' button is disabled.
Hope someone out there can give me a push ... cheers.

I should probably add my specs:
1. Workstation - Windows XP
Athlon 1800+XP
512MB DDR
60GB HDD
GeForce 4 440MX 64MB
Ricoh MP DVD+R\+RW
2. Server - Windows 2000 AS
Athlon 1800+XP
128MB
40GB HDD
120GB HDD (Movie Store)
My ultimate aim is to do two tasks:
1. Create single DVD's from DVD9's.
2. Create single DVD's from captured MPEG2's.

Its a shame that no body could help me here.
But for the benefit of anyone who has come across these problems, I have run a Memory leak program that points out that WinProducer and Video Studio has memory leaks and did not like using remote data or series of large datafiles.
I have now adoped Adobe Premiere and works great.
There are a number of issues outstanding, and when I get them corrected, will post back.
Take care.

For problem #5, I can see this happening due to experience with a slow HD I had giving a similiar problem. Ripping from the dvd to a HD needs to be a fairly seamless process and if there is a drastic speed difference between reading, decoding, and writing to the HD it may give you errors. Try ripping it to the local HD and then copying it up to your network drive.

I actually tried the same programs you tried and I got repeated errors in VOB file reads.
Since July I have been experimenting with Linux. I found a program that has not errored in about 145 dvd rips/encodes. Its dvd::rip and utilizes transcode as a backend. What is so cool about it is that I started out on a single dual cpu machine. Then I loaded it up on another dual machine and clustered them. it works great and runs pretty fast. The ripping I do on one machine and encode on the cluster.
The best part is its all free software. I am a Linux convert now.

Yes, after some serious testing, it appears that all of the problems are caused from writing to a network drive while copying & editing.
All work should be done locally and when the project is complete backup to nw drive.
