I am wondering if there is a differance in quality between brand name and generic blank discs (especially DVD+RW). Anyone know.

Also where are some good places to get discs cheap?
Thanks

there is a diffrence in quality, it basically comes down to the die used on the disc

All I was saying is that you were speaking to me as if I was stuck behind some computer workstation 24 hours a day in a country you had never heard of.

Perhaps this is just a hobby for me and I have plenty of money?

Perhaps I live in London?

Perhaps none of this is true

Just don't make assumptions.

Paul. (very definitely reviewing how much time he spends in front of the PC from now on!)

assumptions ???

this post started of as dvd media. now is blowing into full blown argument.
think you need to get sence of humour matey. i wasnt assuming you sit behind a computer 24hours a day. i was merely stating that some of us aint that well up on computers and how things work in the hi-tech world.

There seems to be emough names out there now, how about a subject change...by the way this is my first time in any sort of forum, so I am going to try to start a new "thread" to get some answers, but since this is active, I am going to take the chance that someone will pitty me. The used DVD X Copy to burn onto a DVD +RW disc, now it has "read only" files that I cant delete...or overwrite - I've tried everything I know, which is squat...anybody gonna take pitty on the PSB in the corner???

One of us means a Brit, in reference to your comment about Islanders.

In answer to the question about DVD-RW, you should be able to do a fast format in the menu on Nero, which you must have has anyway in order to burn your back-up.

O.K., I am getting a copy of Nero, thanks to AFTERDAWN, but I thought DVD X Copy was supposed to be the S*!@ ! I have the option of "quick" or "full" erase, to no avail...by the way, I did start another thread, in which commwiz suggested addressing the DVD drive directly and using the command... "Attrib *.* -R -A -S -H" I tried that, (hoping it wasn't mal intended, and got the error that it is achive.txt bla bla. Point is what does the above command mean to a RW disc. Whats its function and why didn't it work? If anyone wants to reply look for the thread "Cant delete "read only" files on DVD Rw" - or I'll check back here. These darn disc's are too expensive to just keep throwing away after a test burn...ya know?

Sorry the attrib command didn't work for you. It can alter the attribute bytes (R)ead Only, (A)rchive, (H)idden, and (S)ystem, some of which will prevent a file or folder from being deleted. It was just a guess based on limited information but could not have been harmful.
