I have been reading over this forum and have found that if you want a good copy, you need to burn at no higher than 4x to prevent choppy frames and bad audio. However, being the n00b that I am, I burned Madden NFL 2006 at 8x with Philips brand DVD-R's and it works flawlessly. Since then however, I have burned all my games at 4x. Is this really necessary?

I am using the V12 Slim Kit Pro Set v3.6 with Swap Magic.

well my experiance and from what i heard that 4x or lower would be best but sum ppl say 1x - 2x is better for yor ps2 laser so it would last longer and not damage the laser.

Oh I see. So even if the game works perfect at 8x, it's doing major damage to my laser?

it all depends on your burners capabilities and compatibility with the media.if the game plays fine on your ps2 then your laser isnt gonna have any worse side effect from playing a game burned at lower speeds.some burners are just plain better than others which would allow for you to burn at higher speeds.if the game plays fine at 8x then more power to you.all that matters is that the game is copied well to the disc,no matter what speed you use.my burner only goes upto 4x so i have to burn 4x or lower by default.

I've burned most of my games at 8x with no probs... occassionally I have to reburn at 4x because of repeating voice clips etc, but not very often...usually EA games titles for some reason.
I usually burn at 8x and see how I get on with the gameplay, leave the iso on my harddrive for if I need to reburn at 4x... never burned lower than 4x because that's when I get the probs with my playback on mine.

It may or may not be necessary. The speed at which you burn determines what kind of write strategy your burner uses to write the disc. This is basically how long, and at what power the writer will signal the laser. This affects how the burned pits come out. Generally speaking there seem to be less problems with slower burns, so everyone just says "burn slowly".

Since there are many things that can prevent backups from booting, its generally just a good idea to spend that extra ten or twenty minutes.
