So everyone seems to have a different opinion on what burning speed works better for them. So my question is what is the best burning speed to burn games at? Some people say 4x, some say thats too fast, some people say 1x but people say that too slow isn't good either soooo, whats the best speed to get the best performance out of your games (No skipping audio or video, smooth gameplay).

There is no "Best speed" that works on all ps2's, so whatever your ps2 likes most is what you should stick with. Another factor will always be the media you use.

they say to burn slower due to the fact that
your burner will have the time to make a better
copy onto the new media. But sometimes burning too
slow gives you just as bad a result as too fast
aka skipping, audio/video problems.....
so it is really up to what works best for you
the common rule of thumb is to burn at half the speed
of the DVD's you use. Burning 8X DVD's at 4X
4X DVD's at 2X ect....
i usually set DVD Decrypter to burn at 1X and it will
burn at that speed automatic. My 8X discs burn at 3.8X
but 4X with 8X DVD's has also worked really well.

I normally use a good brand of 4x media like Verbatim and Imation (cheaper than 8x and 16x media). I've tried burning them with 2x and 4x speed. Both my v5 and v12 got no problem reading them.

This is my experience, there are too many variables that could affect the outcome, I just hope to get some consistent results.
My PS2 is the v12 version (aka PSTwO). I used Alcohol 120% to burn my backups and have an LG burner that writes at either 4x/8x speeds. I use Ritek -R DVD's which arent the best but nor are they the worst.
I originally burnt my copies at 4x (the minimum I could go) and the load times for the titles I copied were horrible. Laggy at times and some screens just took ages to load. I then tried burning them at 8x (all the same options) and viola, they load like a charm.
Majority of people would recommend 1x (or lowest speed possible) and I think thats a safe bet, but in my case it seems the opposite. Low speeds seem to give my PS2 a hard time in loading them up and continously loading afterwards. I've only tried this on 3 titles, I'll do more and try to get some more results. I would like to also extend this to getting other media types and even trying other burning programs.
I just hope that using 8x doesnt have negative effects on the PS2 laser eventually ... we'll see.

Answer: just burn it as slow as you can stand and your ps2 can still read it. If you can stand burning at 2x, burn at 2x. I usually go 2x or 4x, depending on the size of the image.

Burn at 4x. Never gives me problems. Its not too slow or fast.

I backed up all my PS2 games at anywhere from 4X - 8X for my PS2 version 9. I find it better and easier for my PS2 to read at 8X on Maxell and Fuji (aka Yuden) both at 8X DVD+R "Made In Japan" media. In contrast, you need to know the capability and compatibility of your dvd burner and your PS2 console in order to proceed.

I can not confirm that for sure. What do you mean by too fast? Like 10X, 12X or 16X? If that is so, then YES.... that's way too fast indeed. However, I'm not sure if it will/will not affect your laser though. I would only recommend anything from 4X - 8X only, but "not" any higher than 8X.

No problem... and you're welcome. Seriously, if your dvd burner can burn/back up at 4X, then I don't think it will harm your PS2 console. On the other hand, if your dvd burner can set any of the DVD+R into a DVD-ROM format then it definitely will be much much much better and easier for your PS2 to play as well.
Like I said earlier, I backed up all my PS2 games in anywhere from 4X - 8X using high quality media such as Taiyo Yuden (including FUJI & SONY 8X DVD+R "Made In Japan"), Maxell 8X DVD+R "Made In Japan" and have it book type into a DVD-ROM format, and overall they're all played/plays flawlessly.

I think i have Internal DVD+R Double Layer/DVD+RW Drive DRU-710A cause it looks like mines and i threw my box away lol, yup this 1 is it

I've had the SONY DRU 710A (BYX4 current firmware) since November 2004 and this baby has been burning DVD movies and PS2 games flawlessly. Well, it looks like we have the same dvd writer.
Here's how to book type using DVD Decrypter on DVD+R/DVD+R DL media:
01) Open up DVD Decrypter
02) go to Tools, Drive, Change Book Type (now look for your Dvd Burner and click on it)
03) Change For: arrow down to "DVD+R/+R DL Media" and Highlight it
04) New Setting: arrow down to "DVD-ROM" and click on "Change", click on OK (when Success), and OK. That's it... easy as smoking!!!
Or you can also set the settings inside Nero to set the "book type" to DVD-ROM "automatically". There is a setting on the "Options" just right before you're going to back up/burn your dvd movies or PS2 games using Nero Express or Burning Rom. Inside the "options" you can set the "book typing" to "automatic", so whenever you're going to burn anything (DVD movies & PS2 games) it will automatically change the DVD+R into a DVD-ROM format. This will be much much better and easier for any of your dvd players and PS2 console.

hey i just burned nba live 2005 at 8x and it works great and smooth ,thanks for the step bt step guide and pictures alkohol(i use DVD Decrypter too, your rite it is easy as smoking..lol

what and how does a book type help? i have an LG DVD WRITER im not sure
what speed how do i find out?

book type helps by changing the format of the dvd from DVD-R to dvd-rom, if you notice ona real ps2 game it doesnt say DVD-R it says dvd-rom
