I work alot with vcd's and svcd's and they just aren't coming out like they used to. I can't get through a complete burnt vcd or svcd on my dvd player without it messing up some. I'm sure my problem is in my codec's cause I installed K-Lite Codec Pack and since then I have been having problems with playback. Before downloading K-Lite, when I would download files that would come out to be avi or xvid the icon would be the Window Media icon and now its brown due to the K-Lite. My question is this: can somebody please help me get rid of K-Lite and then what do I install? Do I install Windows Media 10 player codec? What I mess with everyday are avi, xvid, vcd, & svcd. Sorry for confussion but I have epilesy and get confused easliy. Please help me somebody and it is deeply appreciated and God Bless.

So these XviD's are in a container other than AVI?
So you convert an AVI or XviD (mp4, mkv, ogm, dsm, nut?) file to (S)VCD and it plays back poorly on the PC? A standalone? The original file plays ok before converting or it doesn't?

Hi Celtic_d, I will download several headers in a newsgroup and they come out AVI, XviD or VCD. Even if they come out VCD I make them into a bin/cue (usually)and then burn to disc.. I convert AVI to VCD and I convert XviD to SVCD. I know that I should probably uninstall K-Lite codec Pack but what do I put back in there, Windows Media codec for Win XP? Boy, what a mess. I used to could watch my burnt disc on my dvd player on television but now it will garble through parts of it now. It will last for about 30 seconds and then go back to playing beutiful.By garble I mean the sound and video both.

Still not sure what you mean by XviD and AVI. XviD is just a video codec to be used for movies, etc. it needs a container so that you can have audio. The most commonly downloaded container is AVI, however XviD and AVI suggests that the XviD is not in an AVI container.

Anyway, it sounds to me more like a media problem since it also effects VCD downloads which wouldn't be converted and therefor not effected by any codec or whatever issues.

You never answered whether the original sources play ok on the PC, play ok on the pc after converting, etc. though.

Yes they play ok on the computer after converting. Then I burn to a cd and to play on my dvd player for television. I used to always have perfect cd's made and now I can't get through one without a 30 second flicker. I go into the newsgroups and download what they have posted. Once I have all the headers I join by double clicking on the last .rar file. It then becomes a VCD, AVI, XviD or wharever the poster posted.
I then burn to a cd so I can watch on tv. I hope this helps and very sorry if I am having a tough time of explaining. I deeply appreciate you taking the time to help me. God Bless.
