Howdy yall. I bought a second hand ps2 that was pre chipped. I have had absolutley no probs with ripped ps2 games dvds and all originals.

My problem is i cant for the life of me work out how to boot my backup ps1 games. Ive tried boot disks ive tried about 10 different boot methods and cant get them to work. the disks are fine as ive used them on a ps1 with no probs. This is driving me nuts, Is there anyway i can check what type of chip i have so i can then check the boot method? Im not mr tech but i could take it apart if i needed to.

Any thoughts on the subject would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hey Big_ED, do you know which chip you have? I know that on some chips you have to hold in the eject button for like 5 seconds while you start the machine.....and then again some older chips won't play PS1 games (but most of them do) Let me know the name of the chip if you can because I have quite a few chip operating tutorials......

if you do open your PS2 and see the chip look here http://www.modchip.com/ps2/ to try and ID it...I know it's a pain but it just might be worth it...

Yeah i have no idea what chip it is. Im pretty sure its semi recent though as i used to have an old chip and this one seems to be way advanced. For instance the booting of a normal ps2 backup is just put game in turn machine on lol. My old one had to use a boot disk each time.

Ill take it apart and have a look at the chip. Will it be hard to find the type of chip based on looks?

it shouldn't be too hard just be carefull....and write down all the letters , numbers and words on the chip..hmmm, would it be possible to talk to the people that you got your PS2 from? that way you wouldn't have to open it...and by the way, what does happen when you put a backup PSX disc in? Does it go to the red screen?

And one more question... when you play a PS2 DVD backup what color is the console light?

Yeah i get the red screen of death. Sometimes i get the ps2 loading screen for a split second then it just stays black.
Sadly i cant ask the people as i bought it from a hock shop. I suppose ill open it up and have a look. Ill take a photo of it just in case i have probs working out which one it is.

Thanks for your help.
