Hi
Something tells me you guys will know more than the 'support' line. My DVD player has started displaying an error and won't play back on pre recorded disks: Error says I need to format the DVD, the disk used is already pre formatted (Panasonic at that), additionally it has already got recorded items on it, I know this for sure because occasionally I get a glimpse of these in the menu before the error comes up again. Pressing 'format' does nothing. Turning off and on does nothing.
can anyone help?!
Thanks

kateinuk,
Welcome to the forum. I'll take a shot at this one. I take it you are using RW disks or are you using + or- DVD blanks. Take a new RW and format it and see if that helps.
Are the disks it will not play back Hollywood movies or are they recorded TV shows. My neighbor has a DVD recorder and the disk needs to be finalized before he can view it properly.
If that does not work then take the recorder in for maintenance

Are you using the DVD-Ram disk, because Panasonic Recorder will not record to DVD-RW disks. Only DVD-R and the DVD-Ram. If it is the Ram disk you should be able to just reuse it there should not be a format message.

Arniebear,
Thanks. I hated no one helped and I took a shot at it . The neighbor has the unit below and it uses the + and - and Ram but it also uses RW. His came w/ a RW disk . This is why I thought a new RW was in order. I went to the Panasonic site and the more expensive the unit the less formats it uses. Interesting spend more>get less ( reminds me of gas prices) LOL

You gave a good answer, and are always helpful. All I can go on is my Panasonic and I really have not used the Ram disk.

Thanks all for replying to this. I'm not currently at home so can't say what format the disks were, but, I do know that I have previously used them without a problem. And it seems to play hollywood DVDs okay. When I try to record onto them again, it won't play them back. I think I'm going to take it into a service centre...
Do you know how to 'finalise' on a Panasonic?

I have a Panasonic E80H and it has a HDD and DVD, to finialize after you record you must switch to DVD and then use your options. Pick disk and then on the screen it will say finalize, it takes about 4 minutes to go throught the process.
