Hey I need to order some new DVD-Rs and I was wondering if they is any reason to get 8x media over 4x media.... Time isn't an important factor to me, since I just set it to burn and walk away.... and the 4x are cheaper, so...

Is there any quality difference between the two or are they the same???

Thanks,
David

vgndavid,
Welcome to the forum. I would buy the cheaper 4X as I do not think there is any quality difference.

Go with the 4x.

For the most part I only burn 8x at 4x's anyway.

I usually only buy 4x's. Crazy dirt cheap prices too!

i would be just fine with the 4x if i were you as well, i've used MANY 4x and 8x and even a few hundred 16x media already and the quality is consistent with all speeds, ASSUMING you get good quality media to start with.

Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim would be my suggestions if time is not really a factor for you, naturally, the 4x is cheaper than the 8x, so as long as you stick with QUALITY media, you should be good to go with the 4x speed. :)

Recommended Media:

Taiyo Yuden 4x dvd-r TYGO1/ 8x dvd-r TYGO2/ 8x dvd+r YUDEN000T02/ 16x dvd+r YUDEN000T03
Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

vgndavid ,there is NO quality difference between the 4X or the 8X as stated.BUT as Kivory said get the good stuff in the first place
Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim is def. the way to go .The difference is the AZO DYE they both use.

Thanks for the replys everyone....

I have always used Taiyo Yuden discs and it's good to hear that the 4x is the same quality as the 8x because the 4x is soooo cheap now... I just ordered 100 4x TY discs from supermediastore, so I'm looking forward to 100 more successful burns.

Thanks again everyone...
