Most Password Crackers Basicly just Go through a Dictionary of words to try to Find the Password but if the Password is Something Obscure or it is not a regular Word then the Password Cracker probably won"t be able to Find the Password for you....
If the Rar files you downloaded Came with a ".nfo" file or a ".txt" file then the Password might be written down in there....

Yes, after a dictionary attack (described above), most programs will try a brute force attack, trying every number/letter combination. If the password is more than 7 characters long then you wont have enough computing power to crack it!!!
Basically, if you have an archive, which you don't have the pasword to, you're not meant to be able to read it's contents :-)

a bit confused
I do not mean to offend anyone or get anyone angry at me but i am confused about this thread. It sounds like the person downloaded a program that they did not purchase legally and that is why they do not have a password.I am under the impression that we are not allowed to help with patches and cracks. But the question even has the word crack in it.Rar Password Cracker. Please forgive me if i sound like a fool I do not understand the difference between hacking a file and bittorrent downloads.Have a good night and I hope I did not offend.
peace,
Mace

an excerpt from the forum rules reguarding piracy:
Quote: 1. Case: Pirated material, such as serial numbers and direct links to pirated, copyrighted material (including direct links to torrent files and ed2k links). PROHIBITED
2. Case: Technical, in depth discussion about copy protection circumvention (i.e. cracking). PROHIBITED
3. Case: Discussion about pirated content and piracy, such as converting (downloaded) video and/or audio files to DVD/AudioCD/whatever format. PERMITTED
4. Case: Discussion about copy protection circumvention in general (extracting encrypted content, such as DVD movies, compact discs, copy protected console and computer software, using existing software). PERMITTED
5. Case: Links to sites offering possibly pirated content (including torrent files and ed2k links). PERMITTED
as you see in case 4, helping someone extract the data from a downloaded file is okay.
