Hey I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I have a new laptop and every time I try to burn a cdr all I get are coasters. Im not new at this, I burn cds all the time on my pc, but every single time I burn a cd I get a coaster. I've tried different cdrs- using disc at once, track at once, different recording speeds and two different burning programs (nero 6 and easy cd creator) but every time I burn a cdr that needs to be finalized- one of two things will happen: either once it reaches 100% the burner will start to make wierd noises and "seek" (the disc is spinning) for several minutes before the program (either nero or easy) freezes. Then when I manage to get the disc out and try to retrieve files off the disc the disc doesnt work, all the files are corrupt. The other thing that will happen is that the disc wont make any wierd noises but it wont work anyway.

Is there any way to try and solve this problem myself? I think I've wasted about 30 cdrs on this burner so far and would appreciate any help I can get. But please only post if you have an idea, I dont want to read a bunch of dismissive posts like "get a new drive"- I want to know if theres a way to solve this problem on my own.

Thank You

if using xp than check in device manager, ide controllers properties to see if the dma is enabled. try using cdrw disks till get problem resolved as can reformat them. check laptop manufacturer or drive manufacturer for a firmware upgrade which is like a bios upgrade but for the drive & the proceedure on how to do it.
