help with divx3 fast-motion playback ..

hi guys ...

ive a problem with playing a DivX 3 fast-motion encoded video ..

gspot & virtualdub shows that the video is 1hr40mins encoded at 743kbps & its size is 624MB but if played in mplayer classic or recompressed in virtualdub i get only 9 mins of content ..

i'd like to know how to fix this issue .. & yes i did try all the ways
to install up divx3.11 & uninstalled divx6 .. but still nothing ..
the video or audio doesnt play past 9mins even it plays back using divx3

Did you try change the codecs (e.g. to Xvid)?

XviD can't decode DivX 3.11 since it isn't MPEG4. FFDShow can however it sounds like the file is simply corrupt.

well the file isnt corrupt... my friend gave me the file to check it out as it stopped working when he re-instld xp his pc ..

any ideas ..

Play it with mplayer or VLC. If it doesn't work with either then I'd say that it is corrupt.

Dear qwprince,

Maybe you could try this anyway:

Use Power Video Converter or X Video Converter to change the codec of the AVI from DivX to XviD (video) and Mpeg Layer 3 (audio).

If you don't have all the necessary codecs for the conversion, try download and install K-Lite codec Pack (full or mega version).

Dear friend what can I tell you I ate it big time with this Divx3 codec.Yesterday I bought 4 DivX movies from some local store.The movies were encoded with this obsolete divx3 codec.I have the same problem as you - only 8-9 first minutes of movie play and then I get black screen as like the movie keeps on going.I came to the store and said the movies are corrupt,but they do not beleive me.I paid my money and left with crap.I think there is no such thing as divx3 codec.Only 4/5/6 ,do not use or install the divx3 codec.

DivX 3 is real. It is just a hacked version of MS MPEG4 V3. I still have plenty of DivX3 stuff that I encoded back in the day. The stuff encoded before SBC is pretty bad though.
