a while ago i tried to back up fantastic for PAL version for the PS2 nothing wrong happened on the computer but when i but it in the PS2 with my swap magic 3.3 ( not flip top) it came up with a message saying 'Not a valid PS2 disc'. i then tried to rebuild it using a tutorial i found which also worked on the computer but again showed the same message in the PS2. i tried to ask people on another thread but no one answered me so i was wandering if there was anyone who has had the same problem and has fixed it and if they could give me a few pointers.
thanks

What mod are you using?
You have to have a fliptop/slidecard + swapmagic or a modchip for the chunky ps2... or a modchip or ghost switches/aftermarket fliptop + swapmagic for the slimline ps2.

Backups will not play on an unmodded ps2, whether you have swapmagic or not... you need the mod to stop the ps2 resetting after inserting your backup discs.

Ok, well the slidecard and swapmagic counts as being a mod. ie that it has a way to get around the ps2 resetting. Are you using the slidecard correctly? because there are sometimes posts on here by people saying that there's something wrong with their copy of the game..when what's happening sometimes is that they don't lock the tray back into position properly when they've inserted the backed-up game.
If we can rule out that you're using the slidecard correctly... then we can move on to figuring out if it's something else that's wrong ok?

so, do you have any other backups? and do they work ok when you use the slidecard? If the answer is yes and yes then we can safely assume that it's a copying error.

The best way to rebuild a game I have found is :-

1)Use DVD Decrypter to read the iso to your hard drive... close DVD Decrypter and take the disc from your drive.
2)Create a folder in the root directory eg c:\ff
3)open isobuster and select the iso you just created in step 1.
4)select all the files in the iso and extract them to the folder you created in step 2.
5)open cd/dvd generator and select new dvd project.
6)open the folder with the extracted files in it.
7)select all the extracted files and drag across into the cd dvd gen window one by one - use the list from isobuster to see which ones should go first.
8)close isobuster and the extracted folder.
9)in cdvd gen choose the volume tab... enter the SLES/SLUS or whatever into the disc name field. The producer field should say playstation and make sure it has the correct licence area eg. Europe.
10) when that's done, hit the rec tab... you should be prompted to name an iml file.Name it whatever you want, but I would keep it simple, something like ff .... make sure that this file is going to be saved in your root directory c:\ (it'll be easier to find and delete later)... then hit the save button. you should get 2 error messages, recording unit not connected and initialisation failed...ignore these.
11) it'll bring up a recording uit window. In this select file and then export image... it'll now prompt you to save an lst file...do the same as before, make sure it's the same name as the iml file you saved earlier and save it into the root directory c:\. then click the save button.
12) when it's finished doing that you can close cd dvd gen.
13) then open up dos program. depends on what version of windows you have as to where this can be found... but should be in the start menu somewhere or use the run command in the start menu and then type CMD and enter.
14) in DOS navigate to the root directory by typing in cd c:\
15) type dir you should now see a list of files with the filename you just chose eg ff with numbers as their extension starting with .000
16) depending on the game size, the number of files you got could be anything from 2 to 5 files generally.
17) if you have more than 2 files then include these in the line below also eg if you have 4 files you would also put ff.002 + ff.003 before the ff.iso. and so on.
18) type in copy/b ff.000 + ff.001 ff.iso
19) then hit the enter button... then wait for it to build the iso file.
20) when that's done you can close the dos prompt window. Then select your favourite burning program and burn the iso you just created.

hope that helped someone.

first off, i have many back up games and they all work perfectly so it's not to do with the slide card.
with your tutorial is step 1 necessary 'cause when i rebuilt mercenaries i went straight to step 3, also in step three i typed in CMD in run and DOS came up but i can't type nothing in it.
are you sure this tutorial will work 'cause i've already wasted three discs trying to back up this game, i hope it's worth it in the end!

well, that's how I make all my rebuilds and I've never had any problems... if you don't like the look of it though, look through the stickies at the top of the forum about patching/rebuilding

you skipped putting the iso on your hard drive with decrypter... I'm guessing that you just extracted straight from the dvd with iso buster then? you can do this with some games, but I think it's best to use DVD Decrypter.
Sorry if my tut was not needed and you already know how to rebuild games.

no idea why you can't type anything in dos never heard of that happening before. if you can't use dos, then I think iml2iso works ok, or apache 2.

good luck

What version ps2 - slim or chunky?
If you have a slimline ps2 and the original fliptop cover for it, then you need to get an aftermarket fliptop or ghost switches to go with the swap magic discs.
If you have the chunky ps2, you need a fliptop cover or a slidecard tool to go with the swapmagic discs.
What dvd writer have you got? DVD Decrypter should recognise most dvd writers, but not all. And are you sure you're using it correctly?
You have to set the mode to iso read on decrypter and select the drive you want to read the ps2 disc from.

Sorry, but you're not making much sense queenrulz. Do you mean that your original ps2 game doesn't read in your ps2?

If your original ps2 game isn't reading when you go to iso read, then check your disc for scratches etc...

in your first post you said that you had backed up fantastic four and that it wouldn't play on your ps2... how were you backing it up then?

But why are you trying to read your backed up copy of ff4, it doesn't work? it has already been rebuilt by you and doesn't work in your ps2.

you need to decrypt the original to your hard drive again and then rebuild that image.

When did you say that my way doesn't work? I know you said that you couldn't get dos to work, whcih isn't the same thing as my way not working.... that's why i sugested you use iml2iso or something similar after using dvdgen to create the iml files... did you do that?
then you came back and said that you can't get dvd decrypter to read the iso... different problem totally.
Quote:

basically you keep trying to skip steps and then run into problems... if you just did it the way i said in the first place and then used iml2iso or apche2 or something to create the iso file from the iml files then you'd be ok.
On here we try and help people, but if you can't follow simple instructions, and then start blaming people who try to help you... don't expect much help thereafter.
