Action Replay Max and Unknown Error

I am having a problem with my Action Replay Max. I recently bought it at Gamestop and then I went home, and everything bootd up just fine, but when I went to put in a new game, after I put in the mastercode it said "Unknown Error" My question is why did it say unknown error? I figured that it might be the pal version and tried putting the pal version of the code in, and it still said unknown error. Is there something I am doing wrong or is there a problem with the action replay max? The game that I put in was Gta San Andreas and I tried putting in the ntsc and the pal version of the mastercode and both said unknown error. I am posting in this forum because code junkies' forums are closed. Any answers or help is appreciated.

Not had that problem. Used mine with GTA San Andreas
and it worked just fine. If it were an invalid code
it would have told you that when you enetered it so i figure
you did not enter that wrong.
Are you using this with an original discs?

Yes I am using the original disk of GTA San Andreas, but it seems that maybe I entered the code in wrong or something, but another thing that bothers me is when I download a max drive save fromg gamefaqs.com the save game is recognized and transferred on the action replay max but what I dont understand is why the game doesnt recognize it. Any ideas?
