I recently switched to DVD+R media and have been getting an error everytime I try and burn. My drive is a Benq 1620 with the newest firmware. Windows XP. I used DVD Shrink to rip the movie and it is set to have Nero auto burn.

Any ideas???

first off edit the post and take out the Nero registration key so no 1 steals it. Try having DVD Shrink make an ISO image or make Audio_TS and VIDEO_TS folder then burn it with your burrner.

DVD Shrink will shut down if there are not enough RAM/cpu resources to complete the encoding/burning...

Try disabling some background processes that do not need to be on when backing up your dvd, minimize multi-tasking while this happens----just back away from your comp and let it do its job....

B7W9 is the latest one availlable. Is that the one you flashed your drive with?

What brand name are the blanks are you using? Using cheap dvd blanks could often not be read/written correctly by your drive...

Also, have you defragged your hard drive recently? Are you spyware/adware free?

Thank you all so far for your replies:

When I was using DVD -R discs my drive would frequently not recognize that there was blank media in the drive. I would have to reboot (sometimes several times) before I was able to burn the disc. Once I got it to recognize the blank disc I was burning at about a 98% success rate. The discs were Benq 4X DVD-R.

Someone suggested I try DVD+R discs to see if it solved my reboot issue.

I am now using Benq 8X DVD+R blank discs.

I am happy to say that my drive recognizes my blank DVD+Rs no trouble now. But I am now not able to burn successfully.

1) I am not running any other applications, nor using the computer while it is burning. Although with the DVD-R discs I had no trouble browsing the web etc while it burned.

2) My flashware is now B7W9 (it was B7V9). Still get the same errors.

3) I have tried ripping the Video files to my HD and then burning the DVD later with Nero. I get the same errors.

4) My computer is Spyware free.

5) My drive has not been defragged in a while, however, I was able to burn DVD-Rs no trouble yesterday. It is unlikely that the drive fragmentation is the source of these errors.

6) Sometimes it fails right away (within the first minute or so) and other times it gets to 80%+ and fails.

7) I have tried burning at 4X, 8X, and 16X. I get the same error regardless.

Do I need to have a System ASPI layer installed, or is the NERO ASPI sufficient.

I used the Nero Info Tool and it shows that I do not have a System ASPI layer but I do have Nero ASPI layer (WNASPI32.DLL Version 2.0.1.74 October 26, 2004).

My Nero version is 6.6.0.16.

I have 9 coasters in a row without 1 successful burn.

well you said when your drive read the DVD-R disc you had a good success rate on them.

I tend to agree with what thugs121 said it sounds like media issue. Maybe your burrner dosent like that brand of media. Try changing to a diffrent brand.

It is a Benq Burner and Benq blank dvds.

Would it not be logical that they would be compatible?

You would think but, that isn't always the case. I also stand by everyone here and think its your media. Change to a more reliable brand.

@Proudcdn no that isnt the case. try diffrent media. I bet you will see a diffrence. I had a Sony burrner and used Sony media and I could never get them to work good. so I got some verbatim blank media and took right off. So just cause its the same brand as your burrner is dosent mean it is good media.

Ok I took your advice and tried a different media type ...

I had a few Staples Brand DVD+R 4X discs at work so I brought them home. Don't laugh ... I know you said "Try Good Quality Media", but I did not have time to stop at Future Shop on my way home.

I slapped the disc in my drive, loaded up Nero and burnt no problems at all.

So here is my next question:

Does this have anything to do with the fact that the discs I am having problems with are 8X?

Also, when I use Nero Info Tool it shows these discs as being up to 16X write compatible.

When I use Nero to burn a DVD-Video I select the Burn tab and change Burn Speed from max to 4X. I hit New. It then takes me to where I load my Video Files. I hit the Burn Icon. It then brings me back to the Burn Tab and I have to change the write speed from Max to 4X again. I hit Burn and away it goes.

While it is burning it says it is doing so at 4X.

Am I missing a setting? Are 8X discs just crap?

No the disc your using are probly crap period. It wouldnt make a diffrence burrning at 4x even if they are 16x or 8x you should be burrning it at 4x or slower for sure. So it seems that the porblem is the media you have is poor quility media or you have a bad batch of media.

I took your advice and switched to Memorex 16X DVD+Rs and have been burning like a madman ever since.

Thank you all so much.

A lot of users here at AD have had problems using Memorex blanks to back-up movies. The quality isn't that great and most often the back-ups don't burn well, nor sometimes they read well. If you search some threads, you'll see a lot of people complaining about Memorex. You could be one of the lucky people that can get them working well. Just keep in mind though, not every batch of blanks you buy may have the same quality...
