Hi,

I have a video in .cue and .bin file and i extract all the files into a folder using UltraISO and now i have 4 folders "EXT", "MPEGAV", "SEGMENT", and "VCD" and this is the part i'm stuck on.

How do i convert the movie into .Avi file and have it around 700mb?
Thanks.

It depends on the size of the VCD that will determine the output size but if you use the right encoder then it will turn out to around the size or smaller than the original. You need the file in MPEGAV.

Now since it's a VCD it should be a .DAT file in the MEPGAV folder, you will have to change it .mpg (to do this you have to go to "My Computer"> "Tools"> ?Folder Options?> ?View?> scroll down till you see "Hide Extensions For Known File Types" uncheck it if it's checked, you should see the name of the file then .DAT), after it's a mpg open it with VirtualDubMod, make sure you have the 3ivx codec?s or something similar, after the file is open you go to File> Save As> then follow what you see in the pics below:

Then after you click "Change" you will see something like this:

Select the codec you what to use and click OK, i used 3ivx. After you have selected the codec you will need to name the file, for example call it VCD.avi, you have to make sure to put an .avi after the name.

You can get the 3ivx & VDM for the following links:

Renaming a dat to mpg doesn't make it an mpg. It will still have a riff/cdxa header. Better to use ISOBuster with Extract but filter only M2F2 Mpg frames or VCDGear. Although VDubMod should handle a dat fine anyway.

For a VCD source you need to select an audio compressor as otherwise VDub will serve you PCM audio which is much larger than the orginal mp2 audio.

Another thing to remember is that the VCD source will be 4:3, so you either need to resize or make sure that your output has the same PAR (pixel aspect ratio) so that it resizes correctly on playback like the VCD.

Personally I wouldn't recommend 3ivX. XviD or DivX would be better choices.

Open VCDGear.
A) If you've a CD, select dat --> mpeg, in [vcdgear] section. Load the DAT and select a file name for the output MPG. Nothing easier.
B) Or, if you've an image instead of a disc, select cue/bin --> mpeg. Toc/bin images, cif [Adaptec], nrg [Nero], sfd [Dreamcast], Raw [track image] are supported, too.

Am pretty new myself to the whole vcd to avi, i had never done it b4 till the weekend, having completely forgetting about VCDGear i just changed it from .dat to .mpg it seemed to work so i went with it, 3ivx worked out rather well for me but i'll take your advice and download XviD just in case.

aye aye man
