Flashing Smart XX Can't run backups.

If I've flashed the bios in my Smart XX modchip and I've run the Ed@chip, should'nt I be able to play a backup right off the cd? Everytime I select a bios from the Smart XX start page on my xbox, the system reboots itself. ANd second, can one just play backups off the cd or do they have to be copied to the hard drive?
