Hi.
I've just got the Hauppauge WinTV-PVR 250 to start copying my hi8 home movies I can capture ok from TV with sound but when I try with my Sony TRV78E hi8 cam I have no sound I have tried connecting via s-video lead and composite.
Do I have the wrong leads? Are there different s-video leads?
Maybe I have the settings all wrong? I am a total newbie to all this and not got a clue what settings to use

DVD extra Long play
DVD Long play
DVD standard play
MPEG2 12.0MBit/sec
MPEG2 12.0MBit/sec (CBR)

There are so many options to choose not sure what is the best for me.
Do i need to setup the audio too?
All I want to do is copy and edit my home movies and burn them to DVD or VCD.

Please help and please write like your talking to a 5 year old lol

The S-Video only Transmits Video not audio, You have to connect the audio output from your Hi8 Camcorder into the Audio Input on the Capture card or if the Capture card doesn"t have an Audio input (The PVR-150/250/350 should because it is a Hardware encoder) You would Plug the audio in to the Line in on your Sound Card.....

You might need some sort of Adapter depending on the Type of Audio Output your Camcorder has and the Type of audio input the Capture Card has.....

Good Luck

PS: What Capture settings you use would depend on how much Video you want to put on a DVD because the Higher the Bitrate the Bigger the File will be but also the Better the Quality...

Standard Play will probably give you 90 minutes on a DVD and Long Play will probably give you 120 minutes on a DVD...It all depends on the Bitrate that is Being used and the Length of the Video you are Captureing....
