Is there any way to mod using the multiplayer map pack? My hard drive doesn?t seem to be big enough to copy halo 2 to, also there are several small partitions on the hard drive that I do not know how to delete. I have the multiplayer map pack and I tried to replace one of those maps with one of my modded maps, this failed. I heard you have to do something with the mainmenu.map file to add your map to the list but that is only if you can run halo 2 from your hard drive. Please let me know if it is possible to use the folder with the multiplayer map pack files on the hard drive to add my maps or if you know how to delete the partitions on the hard drive to get one large chunk of space, I still am not sure if I would have enough space to copy the whole halo 2 DVD. I really don?t want to spend money on buying and formatting another, bigger hard drive for my Xbox.

Thanks

I dont think you can fit Halo2 and the map packs on to your xbox harddrive. (at least i couldnt). Rip the files from your halo2 disk to your computer, ("xbox ripper" is good for that)and then leave a few maps out, dont put them all on back on your xbox. I left out all the singleplayer maps, and just play them from my CD. Do you want the unmodded multiplayer maps? Because if you dont, you can just get the program CMR, (coolspots map resigner) and sign your modded map to the code of the old unmodded map, and play away without having to do anything to the mainmenu file. look around in sourceforge, i think thats where i got my copy. Youll have to find the codes to sign them to yourself though, im too lazy. You should be able to get the codes to sign them to by putting the unmodded map into the CMR, and just copying down the code it says before you do anything to the map. But im not sure. I think you can get a tut on how to mess with the mainmenu.map on assassinsforhire.com if you still want to try that.(its a dead forum, its ok, but the tutorials and stuff are all still there.)

To auto aim anything, open the map you want to auto aim on in insolence, and go down to the weapon tag. Double click on the weapon that you want to change(in your case objects\weapons\rifle\sniper_rifle\sniper_rifle)and make sure it says Edit mode somewhere along the top of the window that opens. The window that opened should say stuff like bounding radius, pickup, swap, etc. Go down that list until you find Auto Aim Angle(Radians)and change that to either 1 or 360, (i dont know which). go to the tag a below that that says Auto Aim Range, and change it to something stupid like 500. You now have a sniper rifle that will automatically aim at any enemy on the map, no matter where they are. Not sure if it works through walls or not though. The auto aim should always lock to the head.

Takes a lot of the fun out of the game though. I personally wouldn't like to be playing against you. :)

Now for my question:

If you edit the values for any weapon in the single_player_shared.map file, will that weapon be edited for the whole single player campaign, or even at all?

Do you have Xbox media center? It is the best for playing any media. Google it.

Thanks Skwyrl! I will just play the unmodded maps from the halo 2 disk. The only problem is if I ever want to mod one map twice with different mods I will want to have both on the list. I now have the halo 2 disc copied to my xbox hard drive (minus the campaign maps), now how do I play halo 2 from there? I?ll try changing the mainmenu.map later but I need to be able to run halo 2 from the hard drive first.

Thanks for all your help!

For modr2b: Do you have the folders bink, maps and media, along with dashupdate.xbe, default.xbe, downloader.xbe and update.xbe (the maps folder should only have the maps you want, and the other folders should have everything in them ie: dont take anything out) How have you modded your xbox? Softmod or chip? I have it softmodded with unleash X as the dashboard, so I just put all the things above into the E/games/ directory, and it automatically finds the default.xbe and plays it. If yours is a little more complicated than that, go to where you have your halo 2 disk saved and just click on the default.xbe. That should run the game.

For shadow84: I havnt downloaded xbox media center to my xbox yet, but have all the files on my computer. If you dont know how to FTP to your xbox, say and i will explain, but i assume you do if you tried it once. Just take all the folders that make up the xbox media centre (credits, language, media, screensavers, scripts, skin, sounds, system, userdata, visualisations, web, and most importantly, the default.xbe - im not sure if you need the XML document, but throw it in for good measure-) FTP that all to your E drive in your xbox somewhere, and then just run the default.xbe. If you are using unleash X as a dashboard, just hold x and you can switch between unleash, the MS standard dash, and Xbox media centre.

Note: I did refer to two default.xbe files. they are both different files, but most things I have come across for the xbox are executed by a default.xbe file. Just to avoid confusion.

To shadow84: you can just FTP with Internet Explorer, all you have to do is type in ftp://xbox:xbox@YOUR XBOX?S IP ADDRESS. If you don?t know your xbox?s IP address go to system settings on your xbox and the second thing there says IP. That?s your xbox?s IP address. The xbox:xbox is the username and password default for the xbox. If it doesn?t work just check the system settings and confirm the password. Once you are in, you can just drag and drop folders to whatever drive partition you want (in this case the E drive).

To Skwyrl: a couple things (1) I have only the maps I want in the maps folder (I also put in mainmenu.map, shared.map and single_player_shared.map) and I copied all the rest of the folders and all their contents. (2) I got my xbox and didn?t know it had already been modded, it is probably modded with a chip because the screws have been taken out from the bottom (the warranty stickers have circles cut in them around the screws) but I am not completely sure, I know it is Evolution X though. (3) I can find the files though the xbox file browsers but when I click on default.xbe it comes up with a dirty disk error and nothing loads at all, I even bought a new halo 2 disk because my old one is pretty scratched and I retried the whole thing and copied the files from my new disk and put them back and I still get an error. I?m not sure what the E/games/directory does but I guess it probably does the same as clicking on default.xbe. I?m not sure what to do now with the error. Again, thank you for all your help Skwyrl.

No, you don't need any programs, from what I see you are just creating a separate on/off switch that just goes through the controller cord. If this has been said to work then I don?t see why it wouldn?t as long as you followed the instructions carefully. Make sure you soldered all the appropriate wires to the right places and make sure your solder didn?t short across any other things. Try reading through the instructions carefully again and just make sure everything is placed right, if it still doesn?t work I suggest looking for some instructions from another source and see if they tell you to solder the same wires to the same places.

P.S. Did you get the FTP working through Internet Explorer?

Modr2b: yea, that directory does the same thing as clicking the .xbe.Hmm, thats an odd one. When you bought the new disk, did you take all the files from the old disk off and replace them all, or only the default.xbe? Hmm, I got absolutely no clue, sorry. :(
