It's just a way to tell you that your dvd-rom/burner doesn't like that specific brand/type of discs.

I run into that sort of problem with my Iomega burner. It doesn't like cheap media (Fuji - "Made in Taiwan", Nexxtech). Not to mention this burner is about 2.5 years old. *Note - I have the newest firmware for it, and it didn't make a difference*

My newer burner, a Lite-On one, seems to accept every kind of disc (yes, including cheap ones) I throw at it....

For your problem, I would use better media, such as Verbatim, Fuji (Made in Japan), Sony, Taiyo Yudens, etc......just avoid Memorex!

- Ideal way to deal with the MPAA~RIAA

bummer, I was hoping for a little more info in this thread.
I'm not sure but I think mob_nz meant this is happening in DVD Decrypter when trying to decrypt a dvd (not quite to the point of inserting blank media and burning).
I have gotten this error twice now and cannot backup two seperate DVDs. Oddly the DVDs were Viva la Bam and the older CKY2K. Makes me wonder if there is some different kind of copy protection.
If anyone has any info/advice on this I'd greatly appreciate it.
Again, this has nothing to do with blank media (at least in my case). This is happening in DVD Decypter while trying to decypt the original DVD.

I have received the same error in encrypter while trying to rip Human Nature.

I also receive a similar error in DVD Shrink.

Please help us!

For anyone following this thread and are still having the read problem in DVD Decrypter...
I did some searching (yes, I do know how to do that) and came across the following site:
http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/petesguide9.html
Which details the following tips for hard-to-rip DVDs:
Quote:
First, let's start by Fine-Tuning DVD Decrypter. Let's take a moment to fine-tune your DVD Decrypter's settings. First, it should be version 3.5.4.0. Go to "Tools", "Settings", set everything to "Default". Then in the "General" tab change, "Removal Method" from "Normal" to "Aggressive", in "File Mode", "tick" Remove IFO/BUP PUO's." For ripping in the "ISO, Read Mode", "tick" "Remove IFO/BUP PUO's" there also. in the "CSS" tab, under "CSS Cracking Method", choose "Brute Force ~> I/O Key Exchange" and "On Failure" choose "Yes". . IMPORTANT: In the "I / O" tab, in the bottom right, "tick" the box which says, "Ignore read errors". This helps with some Mfgr defective discs and it is an excellent setting for dealing with lightly scratched discs which may cause reading problems. We're now finished with our settings here so click "OK." There's no reason to change these settings. DVDD is good ripper right out of the box, all we did is to give it some "teeth." (Lol :)
I did only one thing suggested here and that was enabling the "ignore read errors" and then Decrypter read the DVD. So, I'm now running DVD Shrink and all looks OK.

But I do have a question about this still. If the original DVD was damaged in some way and therefore causing I/O read errors, then will checking "ignore read errors" and ripping it anyway, result in a less than perfect copy of the DVD?

Thank you all for your comments, I managed to get the backup on to pc but now i can not put it onto a dvd.

First i want to confirm that it was in DVD Decrypter that i got this error
I sometimes get it with dvd-shrink to
Another point is that there is ment to be new types of copy protection coming out i can't remember them all but one thing i know is sony have one called blu-ray i don't know anything about it apart from it is a new format opps i think i'm wrong i think this is just a format and nothing to do with copy protection. must do some investigating
But thanks one and all

What is with all the key N/A are your running another program in the background like AnyDVD or DVD43? This can sometimes cause conflicts with Decrypter.

Here is a post from LUK author of Decrypter on your error

'No Seek Complete' - This means the drive cannot focus on a particular sector and hence read data from it. Just click the retry button a few times, if that fails, click ignore. You might have to do this a few times! Dont worry though, after the fifth 'ignore' you can choose to ignore all errors. Just leave it going...it might take a while, but it WILL work in the end.
Try turning ON fast error skip too..that might help to speed up the extraction of the dodgy area. Its not program related - no one program will be able to read the disc better than any other one. Some will just handle it better than others.

And as colw states update to the newest version.
