If you are burning faster than 4x sometimes thats the problem lower your burn speed. I use Fuji Film 8x DVD-R and have never had a problem.

P4 3.0 Ghz HT, XP w/SP2
NEC DVD RW ND 3520A EXTERNAL
NERO 6.6.0.16
PS2 v30001 R

Could be several things. Does your standalone accept all formats like -/+R/RW? Some standalones are very picky - it's trial & error sometimes. On the ones that don't work on your standalone do they play on your PC?
Run those datawrite's and the one's that don't play thru Nero and post back the disc's manufacturer id.
Make sure your firmware is up to date on both your drives - this can help your drive with the media.
When you try to copy certain discs what error do you receive?

Definitely try better media. I can burn Tys at 8X or 12X and get pretty good results with my liteon according to K-Probe. I still burn the majority of my backups at 4X though, just to be safe.

What's the media id on the discs you're using? Use Nero ToolKit>Nero InfoTool>Disc tab. This could be your problem. As for the format can your dvd players (standalones) play both formats?
