Home security software with USB webcams?

I want to setup a home security system. I figured there has to be some good software out that allows me to have 4 or 5 usb powered webcams connected to the PC and record whenever they see motion.

Does anyone know of such a software?

I am looking to build a dedicated system for this, but cost is a very large factor. The cheaper the better.
